As of August 2013, the site has acquired 238 million users, with 2 new profiles being created every second. LinkedIn has become the most useful platform to foster business relations. Forbes Magazine calls it “the most advantageous social networking tool available to job seekers and business professionals today.”
LinkedIn has undergone several survival phases since its launch in 2003. When it became a public company in 2011, its ties with the social media public grew stronger, and it encouraged a previously untapped market into the scene.
There are about 80 million LinkedIn users in the US, with 64% of the total number of users coming from other countries such as India (18 million) and Canada (7 million).
The rest is divided among countries with growing interest with the site, most notably Turkey, Columbia and Indonesia. 11 million users are from the UK and 40 million are from Asia and the Pacific. In total, LinkedIn is being used in 200 countries in 19 languages.
The largest share of LinkedIn users (4 million) come from the IT sector, followed by Financial Services (2.03 million).
The higher academe sector has about 1.95 million users, while the Software and Telecom industries have 1.65 million and 1.59 million users, respectively.
