Any educator understands that a lot of their time is spent working on lesson plans and grading outside of the classroom. That lecture or long school day is only the beginning of a long work day. But the outside work is just as important to making sure students are receiving the best education they can get. The process outside of school doesn’t have to be a grueling affair. Now that the school year has begun, it’s time to look at some of the proven IOS/Android apps for anyone who’s in the business of teaching young minds.

How cross-curricular lessons inspire Critical Thinking

How cross-curricular lessons inspire Critical Thinking | ICT tools | Scoop.it
Cross-curricular? Critical thinking? How do these rather different educational concepts work together, and why should we want them to be a part of our teaching practice? Let’s start with critical thinking, a skill we must consider to be a fundamental goal in all of our work as educators. President Obama publically identified critical thinking as a crucial 21st-century skill that learners of all ages need to master to be successful in both the educational arena and the ever-evolving global economy. Adding in the advice of old John Dewey, we see how learning experiences that stimulate thinking by having students engage in creating meaning out of a variety of facts, scenarios, and variables (rather than just memorizing a single, linear timeline or algorithm with no context or supportive background) puts the learner in the center of the learning process.

Developing Your Digital Study Skills

Developing Your Digital Study Skills | ICT tools | Scoop.it
Making the move from our safe and trusted traditional literacy habits to newer digital skills can be quite a challenge, but as teachers I think we are really unlikely to be able to use technology and help our students use technology really effectively unless we are prepared to face this challenge. Technology needs to be more than part of the way we teach but it also has to be part of the way we ourselves continue to learn and part of our everyday professional practice.

This article show the importance of technology in the classroom and how the use of an online tool as Scrible can improve the collaborative learning. Scrible is a simple browser plugin that you can activate whenever you find something interesting online. The plugin opens a toolbar which enables to annotate and markup webpages with different colour highlighters, sticky notes and change the colour of the text. Also it enables to share the information with others and create a simple link with this information. These links can be either as ‘read only’ or as ‘editable’ pages where students can see annotations and also add their own; making a collaborative learning.

50 Apps That Represent 50 New Ways To Learn

50 Apps That Represent 50 New Ways To Learn | ICT tools | Scoop.it
Modern learning is in a state of flux as it struggles to find out what it wants to become.

Schools continue to merely “add on” learning, while technology strongly suggests new possibilities for inside and beyond the classroom. From learning simulations and mobile learning, to adaptive apps, flipped classrooms, and self-directed learning through amazing digital channels, the possibilities for learning are almost overwhelming.

Below we’ve gathered a diverse list of learning apps across iOS and Android from giants like Google, Apple, Microsoft, as well as upstarts like Brainfeed, The Sandbox, and Knowji. None of the apps are perfect, but each app does something special, and in that talent represents what’s possible as we careen towards 2020 and beyond.
