A Collection of Some Very Good iPad Apps for Creating Story Books in Class

A Collection of Some Very Good iPad Apps for Creating Story Books in Class | ICT Nieuws | Scoop.it
A great way to engage students in productive literacy practices is to provide them with the tools and opportunities to help them compose and narrate stories through the use of  a mixture of multimedia materials that include pictures, text, audio, and video. Besides enhancing their writing skills, this form of composition helps them express themselves multimodally and develop complex ways  of communicating their ideas. In the list below, we are sharing with you a sampler of some of the best apps students can use on their iPads to create beautiful story books. Most of these apps are ideal for all grades from elementary to high school.

35 Awesome Apps that Integrate with Google Classroom | Shake Up Learning | ICT Nieuws | Scoop.it
Did you know that Google Classroom plays well with others? Yep! Google is known for making their applications open to working with third-party applications, and Google Classroom is no exception. Are you using Google Classroom? I have put together a list of 35 Apps that Integrate with Google Classroom, making it even easier to create lessons and announcements with your favorite apps and resources. Translation: more goodies for you and your students! I wish everything connected to Google Classroom! But this is still a new option for developers, so it is not available through every application you use in your classroom. Expect this list of apps to grow a lot in 2016.

Collaborative Art with Sphero and Tickle App

Collaborative Art with Sphero and Tickle App | ICT Nieuws | Scoop.it
Talk about putting the A in STEAM!

This week students in my Explore class will be learning the basics of blockly programing with the Tickle app and learn how to program Sphero. With an introduction to action art by famous artists such as Jackson Pollock, students will work together to learn how to program Sphero using the Tickle app to create a collaborative art piece! Yes, we are painting and programming a robot. Engagement is high in my classroom and my little programmers are using inquiry to figure out how to code. We begin with programing the Orca in Tickle and move toward programming Sphero. Our grand finale will be a collaborative art piece we can proudly display for our school community.

Getting Started Making And Programming With LEGO Robotics

Getting Started Making And Programming With LEGO Robotics | ICT Nieuws | Scoop.it
For years, LEGO has been at the forefront of innovative building kits for young makers and creators. Always looking for new ways to keep kids building and experimenting, LEGO has gone far beyond the static blocks we are all familiar with.

From LEGO City kits to LEGO Star Wars, LEGO Technic, and even LEGO Minecraft kits, there really is something LEGO for every age, skill level, and interest. But the jewel in the ever-growing crown of the LEGO universe just may be the addition of LEGO robotics, and the maker sensation that is the LEGO Mindstorms EV3 building kit and programming platform.

Becoming Innovative: 15 New Ideas Every Teacher Should Try - TeachThought

Becoming Innovative: 15 New Ideas Every Teacher Should Try - TeachThought | ICT Nieuws | Scoop.it
What are the latest emerging trends in education?

As trends to do, these are changing almost yearly. Consider how quiet iPads in the classroom have been recently, whereas three years ago they were going to replace teachers and were (unsarcastically) compared to magic. While mobile devices like the iPad can indeed parallel a kind of magic in the learning process, it obviously has to ‘fit’ into a progressive supporting ecology of assessment, curriculum, and instruction.

With that in mind, we’ve created a list of 15 (the graphic plus 3 bonus items below) new ideas every teacher should try. Not all will fit or work–again, it depends on the ecology of the classroom, school, and so on. But each of these ideas below–some learning models, some concepts, and some technologies–can be transformational for students, and your teaching.

This is a fantastic summary of ways to transform learning - in fact the PBL and Skype examples in combination with the current hot topic in the news about the value and virtues of allrefugees (Karl Stefanovic on WIN Today show)  makes me think I could devise an English  Unit on refugees where students interact through  these digital pedagogical tools  with actual refugees now in Australia to find out their stories and to hear about racial prejudice towards 'boat people', and then write a letter to the editor type assessment dispelling the negativities towards refugees via an online newspaper or blog situation. These could be shared with actual refugees to show them they have the support of Australian citizens....

3 Easy Ways to Record Educational Screencasts Using Your iPad

3 Easy Ways to Record Educational Screencasts Using Your iPad  | ICT Nieuws | Scoop.it
In today’s post, I am sharing with you some interesting tips I learned from Jonathan Wylie  to help you record your iPad screen and create instructional screencasts and tutorials. The first thing that comes to mind when thinking of creating a screencast on iPad are those popular apps such as Explain Everything and Educreations but the thing with these apps is that they do not allow you to record what you do on other apps. For instance, you can not open Explain Everything and go to Evernote app to record your screen there, once Explain Everything window is closed , recording stops.

To be able to navigate your iPad and record this navigation, you will need to mirror your iPad screen to a bigger screen that is your computer. Once you can access your iPad screen  from your computer, you can then use a screencasting tool to record your iPad screen. Here is how you can do it all:

How To Browse With Split Screens In iOS 10 - | ICT Nieuws | Scoop.it
Though begrudgingly, it seems as though Apple is finally trying to improve the multi-tasking features of its mobile hardware.

Among the changes in iOS 10–for the iPad and iPad Pro, anyway–is the ability to browse with a split-screen view. This means that rather than simply have ‘tabs’ open, you can have two functioning and active browser sessions open at once.

All Roads Lead to Code - EduTech4Teachers

All Roads Lead to Code - EduTech4Teachers | ICT Nieuws | Scoop.it
So, why just use technology, when you can build it, right? But first—students need the programming know-how in order to do so… And that begins with you!

Whether you choose to embrace the concept or not, it’s becoming more and more important to equip students with coding skills. It’s the new literacy for a generation of students growing up in a digitally-connected world. Having this knowledge not only strengthens general skills such as critical thinking and problem solving, but it will become invaluable in their future as a wide range of industries are eager to hire individuals with programming abilities.

Technology is an immense tool that can transform the way students learn. One of my favourite quotes which demonstrates this comes from Steve Jobs:

Just technology!

Sebastián Vásquez's curator insight, September 21, 2016 7:13 PM
In my opinion, substitution, argumentation, modification and redefinition (SAMR) model is a very useful tool to have into account as a starting point, or as a reference one, to start thinking about the way teachers can design lessons and the role they want technology to play into the classroom. It could also be used as a way to make students reflect upon the way they normally use technology and to make them aware of other possibilities and different ways in which they could do it. Furthermore, we can use this method as a pretext to discover others and to explore other ways in which technology could help us all to enhance teaching-learning processes.
