How to record your iPad screen using QuickTime Player on your Mac | iPad Insight | ICT Nieuws | Scoop.it
While I was surfing around the internet the other day, I came across a procedure that allows you to record the screen of your iOS device using QuickTime Player on your Mac.  As someone who could really benefit from this feature for demonstrative purposes, my curiosity was definitely peaked.  Add to that the fact that it is built into every Mac running Yosemite and that it’s completely free, and I knew that some of you, too, would really appreciate knowing how it works.  Here’s a quick tutorial based upon Aaron Douglas’ Blog post on The Dangling Pointer.

The article does not mention that this only works with iOS devices that use Lightning cables i.e. iPad Mini or newer, iPad 4th Gen or newer, iPhone 5 or newer. The cable must be plugged into the Mac for this to work.

Fun App for Kids Turns Writing Into Interactive Game | Edudemic | ICT Nieuws | Scoop.it
Do your students suffer from writer’s block? I’ve found a cure for what ails them: Writing Challenge for Kids, an app by Literautas. After reading several positive online reviews, I tried this app with my students and got results that surpassed my wildest expectations.

With this app, the task of brainstorming a story introduction, scenes, and characters becomes a game. Working against the clock, students respond to specific prompts that guide them through the story-writing process. It’s fun, it’s fast, and, as the name suggests, it’s challenging. Read on to discover if this challenge is right for your students.

Apple is making it easier for schools to put iPads in classrooms - Engadget

Apple is making it easier for schools to put iPads in classrooms - Engadget | ICT Nieuws | Scoop.it
Apple's dreams of putting iPads in classrooms have run into a number of roadblocks, but one of the biggest is simply the amount of work involved -- each slate needs its own account, making it a nightmare if you want to outfit an entire school. That won't be a problem for much longer, however. Both MacRumors and 9to5Mac have discovered that Apple is ditching the requirement for individual IDs on school-supplied iPads as of this fall. Staff will just have to decide which devices get apps or books, letting teachers focus on the actual education instead of getting things running. They'll still have plenty of control, so kids can't load up on games and other distractions unless they get the green light. It's too soon to know if this will lead to more kids taking home tablets instead of textbooks, but there will at least be fewer barriers to making that happen.

How to start using Apple TV in the classroom - Daily Genius

How to start using Apple TV in the classroom - Daily Genius | ICT Nieuws | Scoop.it
The big push for education technology is coming from a handful of sources. There’s the teachers, the administrators, the students, and the technology producers. Technology is not the final solution to improving education, though. Far from it.

Education technology is a powerful tool in a teacher’s toolkit to create effective learning opportunities. It’s just a tool – not the entire toolkit. This seems to be the general consensus now that edtech is becoming more ubiquitous and attainable for many schools in developed countries. Sadly, it’s still far out of reach for many developing countries.

Video Toolbox: A Good iPad App for Blurring Student Faces (when needed) - Moving at the Speed of Creativity

Video Toolbox: A Good iPad App for Blurring Student Faces (when needed) - Moving at the Speed of Creativity | ICT Nieuws | Scoop.it

"Despite our best efforts, sometimes a student who shouldn’t get photographed gets in a picture or video. If it’s a photo, in the past I’ve either deleted the picture or used the free iOS app “TouchBlur” to blur that student’s face if they were in a group shot. Here’s an example of a photo like that from my class last year, when students participated in a “cantilever span” building challenge idea I copied from Brian Crosby.

Today my wife realized a video she’d recently taken of students showing off the “Jitterbug Robots” they had built included a brief view of a “redshirt” student. The videos are SO great I didn’t want her to have to take the entire thing offline, so I searched and found five different iPad apps which are touted to support video blurring. Here’s the summary of what I found for these apps, along with my recommendations. "
