Mirroring360 by Splashtop: A Fantastic BYOD Tool @ClassTechTips | ICT Nieuws | Scoop.it
Mirroring360 now offers new features – one of which is called Mirroring Assist.

This feature enables devices to mirror across large networks without using Bonjour – invaluable for IT. It also uses a QR code or 9-digit mirroring ID to connect, making it easy for teachers and students to mirror their devices. Teachers can easily save recently connected computers in a favorite list for future connections. In a BYOD environment students with any device can mirror their screen so teachers and students can connect, model, and share easily.

Free Technology for Teachers: Learning to Program With MaKey MaKey in Elementary School

Free Technology for Teachers: Learning to Program With MaKey MaKey in Elementary School | ICT Nieuws | Scoop.it

"When I first saw these contraptions my initial reaction was how in the world would we incorporate these devices with our demanding academic curriculum? The last couple of months my instructional technology team and I have had a ball coming up with strong academic tie-ins for using MaKey MaKeys and programming with our elementary students. I was astonished how easily and naturally programming and incorporating MaKey MaKeys have been, even for first graders! Just the other day I was working with first graders who were learning about the four cardinal directions. We had them create interactive compass roses by programming a sprite in Scratch to move north, south, east or west depending on the arrow key they pressed. Some students were even able to add voice recordings to their script!"

Your Students can be “Makers”: 16 Projects Invented by Teachers - Getting Smart

Your Students can be “Makers”: 16 Projects Invented by Teachers - Getting Smart | ICT Nieuws | Scoop.it
The premise is simple: start with a quick tour of the facility and very brief show-and-tell of the tools (less than 30 minutes!), follow with a group brainstorming session around project ideas (less than 30 minutes!), then form groups to jump into projects. Even before lunch on the first day, groups were already sketching and tinkering with Hummingbird Robotics kits, MaKeyMaKeys, cardboard and MakeDo’s, and more. For two days, I jumped in to help groups, learned new tools myself (LittleBits!), fetched tools and supplies as needed (copper tape! wire strippers!), recommended resources and suppliers (Sparkfun! DigiKey!), and acted as cheerleader for teachers pushing themselves to learn incredible new skills and create amazing artifacts of their learning.

The final projects blew ALL of us coaches away! The absolute best part, from my perspective, is that every single project was immediately applicable back in the participant’s classroom. Most of them are generally applicable in any learning environment! Serious high school science content, literature and history, elementary grades, even social/emotional learning… This was absolutely the most excellent collection of practical and academically-oriented maker projects I’ve seen!

Free Technology for Teachers: Learning to Program With MaKey MaKey in Elementary School

Free Technology for Teachers: Learning to Program With MaKey MaKey in Elementary School | ICT Nieuws | Scoop.it
Computer programming has become the new "literacy" that many teachers and school districts are implementing to help students exercise critical thinking and problem solving skills. Students of all ages gravitate towards creating and implementing programs--large and small--that they create digitally. Our technology department recently purchased two MaKey MaKeys for every elementary ITRT to use when collaborating with teachers on special projects that involve computer programming.

What We Learn from Making - Usable Knowledge

What We Learn from Making - Usable Knowledge | ICT Nieuws | Scoop.it
What are the real benefits of a maker-centered approach to learning? It’s often described as a way to incubate STEM skills or drive technical innovation — and it is probably both of these. But as a new report from Project Zero’s Agency by Design concludes, the real value of maker education has more to do with building character than with building the next industrial revolution.

5 Good Portfolio Creator Apps for Students ~ EdTech& MLearning | ICT Nieuws | Scoop.it

Today we are updating the popular ‘iPad digital portfolio apps’ post we published last year by adding the Android version of some of the apps we featured there.  Using these apps students ad teachers will be able to easily create and access their digital portfolios online. They can also use them to document their learning and to showcase their progress via compiling and storing different learning artifacts and creating independent learning journals. Some of these tools allow parents and teachers to keep track of what their students are learning and how they are progressing.
