What’s the Difference Between a Flipped Classroom and Flipped Learning?

What’s the Difference Between a Flipped Classroom and Flipped Learning? | ICT Nieuws | Scoop.it

Why do I characterize this explanation as a flipped classroom and not flipped learning? Because, contrary to popular belief, these terms are not synonymous. Yet nearly every article written on these topics mistakenly equates them.

Useful definition of flipped learning

Volkmar Langer's curator insight, Today, 3:45 AM

K. M. Arfstrom: Flipped learning, however, is a "pedagogical approach in which direct instruction moves from the group learning space to the individual learning space, and the resulting group space is transformed into a dynamic, interactive learning environment where the educator guides students as they apply concepts and engage creatively in the subject matter."

Brian Romero Smith's curator insight, Today, 9:27 AM

There is a distinct difference and Arfstrom explains it thoroughly.

Two Great Periodic Tables of Educational iPad Apps ~ Educational Technology and Mobile Learning

Two Great Periodic Tables of Educational iPad Apps ~ Educational Technology and Mobile Learning | ICT Nieuws | Scoop.it

"Today as I was wading through my Twitter feeds I came across a link to the periodic table of iPad apps created by ICTEvangelist.Upon checking this work I learned that it is inspired by a relatively similar work done by Sean Junkins which I have featured in an earlier post in this blog. Different as they are, both of these periodic tables provide an interesting collection of educational iPad apps you could probably consider using with your students. These apps are arranged under different categories and each of these categories  has a unique colour code to help you identify apps belonging it. The labelling of the categories in these two periodic tables slightly differ from one another with ICTEvangelist tending to repurpose his work for UK-based educational settings."

How Kids Are Learning to Code While Playing Minecraft - Mind/Shift | ICT Nieuws | Scoop.it

"Teachers are already capitalizing on their students’ fascination with the computer game Minecraft to teach everything from math to history. Now, a new add-on teaches kids to code their own modifications to the game. In his Wired article, Klint Finley explains how the creators of the add-on called LearnToMod hope their tool could be a gateway for students to discover a love of computer programming."

How to Get the Most Out of Student-Owned Devices in Any Classroom

How to Get the Most Out of Student-Owned Devices in Any Classroom | ICT Nieuws | Scoop.it

Technical issues with devices can be a headache, so setting some ground rules for device management helps mitigate some hiccups. Mills recommends making it clear that it is students’ responsibility to bring their device to school charged and ready to go. Designating a spot on student desks or tables where devices go when they aren’t being used for a specific assignment is also a great way to deter students from succumbing to distraction.

This made me think about not just how we as teachers feel about technology use in schools, but also, how do our students feel about it? We know many of them know more about how to use the technology than we do, so are we involving them in the decisions we make about use and purchase of technology...or are we doing what we've always done and assumed we know better than they do?
