Not so much a 'Quick Guide' as an in depth guide, really! Looks of detailed explanation and screenshots giving a solid overview of a whole host of tools. Much more useful than a list as you can read and look and get a clear idea of what the tool is and how it might be used.

We're all aware that we spend a lot of time on social media these days. Many would even say we're spending too much time -- not stopping to smell the roses, so to speak. After all, the average 18- to 34-year-old American knocks around on social media sites like Twitter and Facebook for up to 3.8 hours per day.

Video Toolbox: A Good iPad App for Blurring Student Faces (when needed) - Moving at the Speed of Creativity

Video Toolbox: A Good iPad App for Blurring Student Faces (when needed) - Moving at the Speed of Creativity | ICT Nieuws | Scoop.it

"Despite our best efforts, sometimes a student who shouldn’t get photographed gets in a picture or video. If it’s a photo, in the past I’ve either deleted the picture or used the free iOS app “TouchBlur” to blur that student’s face if they were in a group shot. Here’s an example of a photo like that from my class last year, when students participated in a “cantilever span” building challenge idea I copied from Brian Crosby.

Today my wife realized a video she’d recently taken of students showing off the “Jitterbug Robots” they had built included a brief view of a “redshirt” student. The videos are SO great I didn’t want her to have to take the entire thing offline, so I searched and found five different iPad apps which are touted to support video blurring. Here’s the summary of what I found for these apps, along with my recommendations. "

Typically, concepts like nouns and parts of speech are thought of as terrible, tedious, and troublesome concepts that can lead to learners to becoming tired, terrified and perhaps – in the extreme cases – tearful! With that in mind, learners at Parklands College in Cape Town brought Morfo into the mix.

Since there’s such a push to bring apps into the classroom, it’s time to figure out which ones are right for you. I threw together this cheat sheet to choosing education apps that will hopefully help you quickly choose what works (and what doesn’t).

So what are some of the best education apps for active learning? What are the top ways to get students actively engaged and interacting with one another? There are some seriously amazing iPad apps that are terrific for project-based learning, active engagement, and even flipped classrooms.

This cheat sheet will help – but first let’s run through the questions you see in the visual.

Android may shift more units than Apple's mobile platform, but the App Store still tends to get the lion’s share of the best apps, from high-end audio tools through to cutting-edge education offerings.

But what can you get if you’re not willing to spend anything at all? Surprisingly, quite a lot; as our selection shows, fantastic free iPhone and iPad apps are available for all manner of tasks, from sprucing up photos and composing music through to keeping fit and exploring the world.

Excerpt:A revolution in the classroom:Check facts: probably the most common use of all. Both students and teachers can now find facts within seconds. This can be very useful when explaining and debating topics.Take photos: mobile phones can be used as cameras to illustrate work and presentations.Make videos: similar to the last point. For example, videos can be used to record experiments and later include them in projects.Carry out tests: this is probably one of the most interesting and revolutionary uses of the mobile phone in the classroom. Students can now take quizzes and tests on their mobile phone that were created earlier by their teacher. In this way, teachers can gain valuable real-time insight into the knowledge of their students and the effectiveness of their teaching. To implement this technique now, download the ExamTime Mobile App for iOS or Android.Read the news: many teachers often include news articles as part of their teaching methods (for example, in Economics). With an endless amount of news gathering mobile applications, you can bring news and current affairs into the classroom in an instant.Dictionary: there are a multitude of dictionary applications that allow you to check the meaning of a word instantly.Translator: again, this can help with meaning and explanation of a foreign word just like the dictionary application.Click title to read more.....

Apple is making it easier for schools to put iPads in classrooms - Engadget

Apple is making it easier for schools to put iPads in classrooms - Engadget | ICT Nieuws | Scoop.it
Apple's dreams of putting iPads in classrooms have run into a number of roadblocks, but one of the biggest is simply the amount of work involved -- each slate needs its own account, making it a nightmare if you want to outfit an entire school. That won't be a problem for much longer, however. Both MacRumors and 9to5Mac have discovered that Apple is ditching the requirement for individual IDs on school-supplied iPads as of this fall. Staff will just have to decide which devices get apps or books, letting teachers focus on the actual education instead of getting things running. They'll still have plenty of control, so kids can't load up on games and other distractions unless they get the green light. It's too soon to know if this will lead to more kids taking home tablets instead of textbooks, but there will at least be fewer barriers to making that happen.
