When writing an IEP for a student, are you considering their career path- especially if they are at the secondary level? School social workers teach these skills everyday.  Are they appropriately identified and articulated?

SageRave's curator insight, May 27, 2:15 PM

Alot of these skills cannot be taught. Your B.A., MBA., or Ph.D.may not give you the edge you thought they might.

How flipped learning works in (and out of) the classroom

How flipped learning works in (and out of) the classroom | ICT Nieuws | Scoop.it

Flipped learning is more than just having students do homework during the school day. It’s more than just putting the onus on students to teach themselves. In fact, it’s neither of those things. Don’t be fooled by simple explanations of flipped classrooms that simplify a highly complex undertaking.

Dustin Fowler's curator insight, May 13, 2:47 PM

If there's one thing we should all know about the future of education, it is that technology will play a huge role.  Digital sources provide us with seemingly unending capacity to adapt our courses to meet the needs of modern learners.  College programs centered on blended instruction signifies a coming shift, not only in how students learn, but in how teachers teach.

Elaine J Roberts, Ph.D.'s curator insight, May 15, 8:57 AM

It's important for pre-service teachers and veteran teachers learn more about blended learning and about "technology-rich teaching and environments."

How A 6-Year-Old Learned Coding Skills With These Adorable Robot Toys

How A 6-Year-Old Learned Coding Skills With These Adorable Robot Toys | ICT Nieuws | Scoop.it
The learn-to-code movement is aiming younger.

MIT and partners, for example, recently released a free iPad app with its visual programming language ScratchJr., so kindergartners could use it to code stories and games even before knowing how to read. Vikas Gupta, a former Google executive who founded the startup Wonder Workshop (formerly called Play-i), has taken a slightly different path. "We learned that in order to make programming of interest to young children, it has to be a tangible product. It can’t be just software," he told Co.Exist last year.

Enter Dot and Dash—Wonder Workshop’s two new robots that teach coding skills to children as young as five that are now being field tested in a few dozen elementary school classrooms nationally. And they are definitely tangible: Dash hears and responds to sounds, navigates around a room and avoid obstacles, and comes to life with sound and lights. He can even play the xylophone. Dot, on the other hand, doesn't have wheels and is meant to interact with Dash via Bluetooth and act as a controller. Both have their own customizable "personalities." On the back end, through four apps that control both robots, they are secretly teaching coding skills such as "event-based programming, sequencing, conditionals, and loops."

Check out this AWESOME #Maker #Education site! Thank You @jackiegerstein | ICT Nieuws | Scoop.it
The Maker Movement is a technological and creative revolution underway around the world. Fortunately for educators, the Maker Movement overlaps with the natural inclinations of children and the power of learning by doing. Embracing the lessons of the Maker Movement holds the keys to reanimating the best, but oft-forgotten learner-centered teaching practices. New tools and technology, such as 3D printing, robotics, microprocessors, wearable computing, e-textiles, “smart” materials, and new programming languages are being invented at an unprecedented pace. The Maker Movement creates affordable — even free — versions of these inventions, and shares tools and ideas online, creating a vibrant, collaborative community of global problem-solvers.

The Mobile Learning Landscape 2015 Infographic

The Mobile Learning Landscape 2015 Infographic | ICT Nieuws | Scoop.it
Widespread adoption of smartphones and tablets has fuelled extensive interest among learning professionals about the use of mobile devices for training delivery. What is the state of mobile learning in 2015? Is growth underway? Are obstacles being surmounted only to give way to new stumbling blocks? Or is mobile learning accruing the sort of success stories learning professionals have hoped to see?

To explore those questions and other elements of mobile learning, ATD and i4cp sought insights from learning leaders and professionals worldwide in The Mobile Landscape 2015: Building Toward Anytime, Anywhere Learning. Their views, experiences, and strategies offer valuable guidance and examples for those just beginning the mobile learning journey.

ATD and i4cp found that 34 percent of organizations have mobile learning programs. Even among organizations not actively leveraging mobile learning, interest in its potential has—and does—run high. The numbers of learning professionals with mobile programs in development or under serious consideration have consistently matched figures for those in use.
