But the unmet need is greatest among those aged 15 to 19.

Facebook Rolls Out Zero Data Charge Access in the Philippines | ICT for Education and Development | Scoop.it
Facebook is offering free access to Philippine smartphone users, effective on Thursday.

The launch marks the first time Facebook has granted Asian smartphone users full access to the network without data charges. Subscribers will be able to access and share Facebook content for free through mobile browsers and its designated app for an initial three-month testing period. The company's partnership with Philippine network provider Globe Telecom (a regional associate of the SingTel Group) could indicate a more aggressive push to capture the Asian market.

Monica S Mcfeeters's curator insight, October 21, 2013 2:01 PM

Meaningful learning last the longest. Learning applied to solving real life problems makes learning meaningful.....that is after all why we teach and why we  want to learn. Education is not just about getting a job nor is it only about doing something because it's on the next page or a test. That is a reality is hard for both student and teacher to remember. Activites like this can help bring home what education is about.

Self-Organised Learning Environment (SOLEs) in an English School : an example of transformative pedagogy?

Self-Organised Learning Environment (SOLEs) in an English School : an example of transformative pedagogy? | ICT for Education and Development | Scoop.it

The SOLE concept, although flexible, has the potential to offer a divergent, radical transformative pedagogy. This sits somewhat uncomfortably alongside more convergent approaches which position the learner as subservient to the curriculum, with the task of merely mastering subject matter prescribed by the teacher. However, what is notable from this analysis is that transformative pedagogy seems to be positioned alongside, rather than in conflict with, the dominant educational framework.

21st Cent. Learners's curator insight, November 3, 2013 2:40 AM

I'm torn by this. I'm sure that children come back with lots of information from the net, but how well is this translated into deeper understandings? Skillfully facilitated plenaries must be crucial.  Maybe a juxtaposition of this with Hattie's findings on the key features of effective teaching would be interesting?  I'd love to see SOLEs in action.
