Commonwealth Scholarships in low and middle income countries - Masters and PhDs

Commonwealth Scholarships in low and middle income countries - Masters and PhDs | ICT for Education and Development | Scoop.it

The Commonwealth Scholarship and Fellowship Plan (CSFP) is a unique programme. Since its establishment in 1959, it has provided opportunities for over 30,000 citizens of all Commonwealth countries to study in other member countries.

Since the scholarships have traditionally been supported by host governments, the overwhelming majority have been hosted by developed Commonwealth countries. Now, following the establishment of the CSFP endowment fund in 2009, a new strand of Commonwealth Scholarships located in low and middle income countries is available.

Poor Students Face Digital Divide in How Teachers Learn to Use Tech

Poor Students Face Digital Divide in How Teachers Learn to Use Tech | ICT for Education and Development | Scoop.it

What distinguishes the most innovative schools is what students and teachers do with the technology they have. Parents want their children prepared to shape the future, not get steamrolled by it.

If this is true in US, then how much more so on a global scale?

Elaine J Roberts, Ph.D.'s curator insight, September 20, 8:33 AM

I talked to a brand new teacher recently who wondered why she'd bothered to go to college since her education program prepared her for very little of what actually happens in her school, a Title 1 school. She has little to no familiarity with technology or even where to go to find resources to figure out what's best to use when. When she does try to research something, she is overwhelmed by the options. She is not alone. A tech coach can help provided the tech coach isn't split between numerous buildings and provided the tech coach has time and opportunity to research other options and knows how to ask teachers questions about what they need and want, especially since most teachers don't know what they don't know. It's a conundrum not easily solved by working with an edtech consultant, though that is a solution. You can find me on Twitter @elainej or check out my web site: http://www.p20partners.com. I can help.

Playlist: Games to Learn From as You Play – How We Get To Next | ICT for Education and Development | Scoop.it
That’s a shame. The key to learning new skills or knowledge is repetition, and games offer an easy way to create incentives for that repetition. (Just think how often “gameification” is used to try and fool people into thinking something like exercise is fun.) Often with games, the ones that are most successful at teaching players are those that are most subtle about it. They manage to make work feel like play.

Digital skills that teachers need for the classroom #3: The ability to crowdsource information

Digital skills that teachers need for the classroom #3: The ability to crowdsource information | ICT for Education and Development | Scoop.it
As teachers we frequently promote ourselves in our modern role as facilitators rather than knowledge owners and yet when we get into the classroom so much of what we do tends to be telling rather than asking.

Crowdsourcing information is about doing the opposite. It’s about collecting information from the room and beyond and enabling our students to share what they already know and develop their knowledge together.

The goal, Pearson’s Stephen Frail tells me, is to make the course materials “more compelling than Facebook,” which after all is only “one click away” whenever a student is doing coursework on her computer or tablet.
