Brazil, the country of thirty Berlusconis

Brazil, the country of thirty Berlusconis | ICT for Education and Development | Scoop.it

This report examines all of the shortcomings of this South American giant’s media landscape It is based on fact-finding visits to Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo and Brasilia in November 2012 The media topography of the country that is hosting the 2014 World Cup and 2016 Olympics has barely changed in the three decades since the end of the 1964-85 military dictatorship. As well as the ten or so major companies that dominate the national media and are mainly based in Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo, Brazil has many regional media that are weakened by their subordination to the centres of power in the country’s individual states. The editorial independence of both print and broadcast media is above all undermined by their heavy financial reliance on advertising by state governments and agencies.

How Students Can Use Timeline Infographics in the Classroom

How Students Can Use Timeline Infographics in the Classroom | ICT for Education and Development | Scoop.it

As a foreign language teacher, I am always looking for innovative ways to allow my students to demonstrate what they have learned.

I want students to be able to choose a tool that brings out their creative side and, as a result, leads to a more authentic and meaningful learning experience.

Because learning a language can be difficult, I try to design a variety of activities and projects that will provide students with practice and unique opportunities to develop their language skills through the creation of their projects.

Virtual Reality, as we have discovered in this brief introduction, is lifting itself out of its early ‘90s slumber, and becoming a more readily accepted way of accessing and enjoying educational content. There are naturally many wide gaps to bridge, among them the expense of hardware and connectivity, as well as questions around the validity of the content. However, as e-educators it is worthwhile to keep an eye on its ever-growing potential. Find a neat summation of current thoughts on VR in education in this NMC/CoSN Horizon Report on emerging technologies and their impact and use in teaching and learning, starting on page 44.

Video games is something teachers fear to use because of their lack of awareness of the new technological tools being implemented around the world, this mostly happens with older teachers from the past generation who tend to be more traditional. But just imagine being able to teach your students through a game known worldwide: Minecraft, A great game which combines the art of storytelling, fine arts, music, video production, and appropriate player engagement to create an immersive, memorable experience of learning. It might be hard at first but after you get the hang of it, it becomes at easy as pie to incorporate the game into your classes.

How Important is use of Technology in Education

How Important is use of Technology in Education | ICT for Education and Development | Scoop.it
There were a huge number of positives and negatives to education technology. But, gradually as technology was embraced by the educational institutes, they realized the importance of technology in education. Its positives outnumbered the negatives and now, with technology, education has taken a whole new meaning that it leaves us with no doubt that our educational system has been transformed owing to the ever-advancing technology. Technology and education are a great combination if used together with a right reason and vision.

Augmented reality–a technology that uses a trigger image to superimpose digital content over a user’s view of the real world–is growing in popularity and accessibility, and it holds a wealth of potential for education. Often described as “QR codes on steroids,” the technology offers new and exciting ways for students to interact with lessons, said Jeff Peterson, an instructional technologist in the Lamar Consolidated ISD in Texas. Peterson presented a TCEA 2017 session on augmented reality’s application in classrooms.

Creating learning content on your phone | ICT for Education and Development | Scoop.it
Creating resources on my phone is not something I usually do, unless it’s a tweet, photo for Instagram, document for my book projects, or videos for family and friend events. I general consume on my phone, and I wish I created more. Which is why I was interested to get my hands on this little bit of kit once it arrived in the office. The DJI Osmo Mobile.

“Osmo Mobile turns your smartphone into a smart motion camera, making every moment you shoot look smooth, professional and ready to share. Shoot cinematic videos anytime, or use its intelligent functions to track your subject, capture stunning motion timelapses or even stream a moment live around the globe.”

Angélica Potes's curator insight, April 2, 9:57 PM
Implementing this tool inside of your classes is necessary not only for students use, but also for teachers. In the article it is stated that students use Osmo mobile review to record interviews or different videos, but teachers can also use it for creating their authentic material, and in that way learning would be more meaningful. For instance, if in one class the topic that is been studying is giving directions the teacher can make videos about special locations in the city for students to practice with real life scenarios. Definetely, it is something I would use for working on other topics.
