10 Common Blog Writing Mistakes (Infographic)

10 Common Blog Writing Mistakes (Infographic) | Mobile Learning | Scoop.it
Ever wondered what the most common grammar mistakes are that bloggers make? Run-on sentences, punctuation, or maybe use of wrong tenses? This infographic highlights common blog post writing errors and blogging facts.

Martin (Marty) Smith's curator insight, March 29, 5:07 AM

I love the 92% of companies who blog multiple times a day have acquired a customer from their blog stat. You might wonder how that could work. How can a company blog multiple times a day?

Shorten up your blog posts and widen your content curation and creation path and creating multiple post a day is possible. Each post has a unique URL so they shouldn't step on each other too badly (and that is another good reason to create a wide swath of content).

Brain Pickings is a great example of the power of intense blogging for long periods. Maria Popova's blog has almost 11,000 pages in Google, a PageRank of 7 and almost 11,000 inbound links. Smart content distributed across a wide swath with multiple posts a day can create a powerful SEO position.

My blog writing tips:

* Write in present tense verbs (sounds FAST).
* Short sentences without connections (and, but, so hurt more than they help online).

* Bullet points are good, great visual support is better.
* Match written content to visual support.

* Avoid "stop words" like "him, her, it, they".

* Be specific (use keywords whenever possible).
* Don't sweat grammar but watch the spelling.

Dictation - Online Speech Recognition

Dictation - Online Speech Recognition | Mobile Learning | Scoop.it
Dictation is a free online speech recognition software powered by Google Chrome. You can use Dictation to write emails and documents in the browser with your voice

"Speech Recognition in the Browser

With Dictation, you can use the magic of speech recognition to write emails, narrate essays and long documents in the browser without touching the keyboard.

To get started, just connect the microphone to your computer and click the Start Dictation button.

Dictation uses your browser's local Storage to save all the transcribed text automatically as you speak. That means you can close the browser and it will resume from where you left off.

The app internally uses the built-in speech recognition engine of Google Chrome to transform your voice into digital text.

Speak in your Native Language

You don't have to speak in English as Chrome's engine can recognize quite a few languages including Arabic, Chinese, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Malay, Indonesian and more. Dictation will automatically determine your browser's default launguage and uses it for subsequent transcriptions.

Hindi and other Indian languages aren't supported at this time.

Written by Amit Agarwal for Digital Inspiration."

10 Ways Teacher Planning Should Adjust To The Google Generation

For the Google Generation, information isn’t scarce, and knowing has the illusion of only being a search away.

I’ve written before about how Google impacts the way students think. This post is less about students, and more about how planning resources like standards and curriculum maps might respond accordingly.

Curriculum maps are helpful little documents that standardize learning. That is, they clarify the content to be learned, and offer a shared pathway and schedule to deliver that content to students. Curriculum maps function as a kind of overview of learning content, and can also provide a common ground for the reform of planned learning activities based on assessment data (O’Malley, 1982).

10 Ways Teacher Planning Should Adjust To The Google Generation & The Age Of Information

1. Make the work Google-proof

2. Force them to grapple with big questions without answers

3. Actually make social networks and media channels part of curriculum

4. Focus on learning strategies

5. Create curriculum and lessons that absorb data seamlessly

6. Anticipate student needs

7. Focus less on “understanding”

8. Use spiraling by design

9. Discourage use of traditional units

10. Illuminate the nuance of the world

and bonus!

11. Promote discovery and curiosity and self-direction over coverage and compliance

The Age of Information is characterized by discovery, curiosity, whimsy, and connectivity–all which necessitate self-monitoring and self-direction.
