10 Reasons to Educate Elementary Students about Social Media | Big Ideas in Education

10 Reasons to Educate Elementary Students about Social Media | Big Ideas in Education | ICT_EDU | Scoop.it

"It is always interesting to me, to find out that more and more of our younger students are becoming involved with the Internet and Social Media.  Due to their developmental age, most students have some kind of difficulty with self-management throughout childhood. But, this is to be expected with children. They simply lack the maturity, brain development, and personal experience to understand how to manage themselves in every situation in real life, let alone online."

Teaching primary kids about social media - good reason to have TLs in schools teaching information literacy.

Tiago's curator insight, March 7, 2013 6:48 AM

Much of our progress in human civilization has been driven by egoistic competition. People try to outdo each other, and that creates better science, better technology, etc. However, now we're at a point where this ego drive has become so extreme that it will stop at nothing in order to be more, or have more, than others. And so, companies are destroying the ecosystem, bankers are creating economic crisis, people are building themselves on the ruin of others.

--Jairon G. Cuestra
Social Anthropologist, Psychotherapist

Our food supplies are increasingly at risk. Water resources are increasingly being strained, and our financial systems continue to be highly volatile and risky. At the same time, we're also discovering how all our systems are connected and interdependent. Clearly, business-as-usual is a dead end.
