A really eye-opening video to raise awareness on the overuse of #firstworldproblems. This campaign is fascinating, and has several short videos that emphasize their point- first world problems are not problems.

Angela Wong's insight:

I believe it is important for people to understand other cultures, as it helps them understand their own.

As the United States' culture makeup swells and intensifies, we will be looking at a very diverse population in just a few years. Most students will be able to identify as "two or more" identities.

Great piece. These graduates have a strong future into becoming mature global citizens. I wonder how many more schools would implement this curriculum, given the funding. Is it possible with a graduating class well over 500?

Maintaining Career Momentum for India’s Talented Women

Maintaining Career Momentum for India’s Talented Women | Intercultural Studies | Scoop.it
When Seema* became pregnant, she hoped to take six months off after giving birth. But the multinational financial services firm where she worked followed India’s official policy and only permitted three months of maternity leave.
Angela Wong's insight:

"A recent study by Booz & Company estimates that if Indian women could achieve employment rates equal to men, the country’s GDP would increase by 27 percent."

Hopefully Indian women will be more embraced in the coming years- it sounds like we are on a slow, but steady path.

Angela Wong's insight:

Interesting article; here are my thoughts:

I believe that if diversity training is important, and I do believe it can be very useful and thought-provoking for all citizens, then it should not just be a one-time thing. My father is a retired cop, and he frequently practiced target shooting for a very obvious reason- police officers need to be able to make quick and calculated movements. In the same line of thinking, shouldn't diversity training be frequently practiced?

Your turn:

Is implicit bias bad? Can it save a life? Would this diversity training still be implemented if the races in this situation were switched?

Does a police force need to be an equal representation of the people they are protecting and serving, as some imply? If so, how helpful will diversity training truly be to a force that can be considered a gross misrepresentation of Charlotte citizens?
