On a typical paper worksheets a question would normally look something like this: What are the different figurative language techniques used in in this text.”

The lines on the paper gives students the space to write their answers. Unfortunately, iBooks Author only allows you to put in multiple choice questions. The iBookWidgets app does allow you to put in text questions but they’re not always aesthetically pleasing and can be a time consuming process.
An easier option is to write the question in your iBook and let students type their answers in a note like below.
An added bonus is that all notes are automatically saved to the “My Notes” part of the iBook.

My colleague Nicole Sprainger, has created an iBook "iPads for Literacy & Learning" which has been developed to assist K-10 teachers in utilising the iPad in their classroom literacy learning programs.

It recognises that our students live in an increasingly sophisticated and  media-rich society, in which digital texts are ubiquitous. Our students need therefore to become multiliterate - to be critical consumers of digital media texts. They also need to develop the ability to construct new knowledge, communicating their own ideas and information by composing using digital tools and processes.

There are numerous sites that are now offering Tutorials and how-to guides for creating ebooks in iBook Author. As teachers are now comfortable with the idea of creating their own e-textbooks more and more people are looking for resources to learn how to build touch enabled books that take full advantage of the iPad capabilities. Inserting video and high resolution photographs is one thing but how about inserting 3D manipulatives and models that are touch sensitive. Here is a list of some of the resources online.
