As a social media, twitter has a famous example.

Volkswagen promotes their sponsorship of the Planeta Terra Festival. They hid tickets to the festival all over the city, and shared the location with users via a map. The trick was however, that the map (using Google Maps) would only zoom in to reveal the locations based on how many people shared the hashtag. The great thing about this campaign is that it’s a relatively simple mechanic, just done really well. There was no investment in an expensive app, just a creative an engaging campaign that got people hunting all over the city and engaging with the Volkswagen brand.

The campaign was a huge success for Volkswagen, as within 2 hours the hashtag was a trending topic inBrazil– not an easy feat. This campaign also worked because it was incredibly targeted to the right audience. They wanted to promote the festival to local people, and this was achieved by integrating the online element with the real-world treasure hunt.

chat myself and never thoughtUse mobile marketing to advance your business with Snapchat.

Paige Mortleman's insight:

I have snapchat myself and never thought of it being used as a marketing tool.

After reading this article I agree and think it is a really good way to get your brand out there. It would also be very easy to use and execute, as the article said, a debut of a new product could easily be sent in a snap then the consumer has to go and see it as they want to more than what was shown in the short 10 second clip. Also Flash sales would be very easy to send out to consumers and because the max length is 10 seconds the mystery to what else is there could force consumers to have to come and take a look.

Talk about high maintenance. Confirming many marketers’ suspicions, today’s consumers are unapologetically fussier than ever, and increasingly, they demand that brands treat them like matchless individuals.

Indeed, the vast majority (79%) of consumers agree with the statement: “My relationship with brands is much more personal than ever before,” according to a new engagement study from About.com and the research consultants at Latitude

Paige Mortleman's insight:

Reading this article really makes you think about how quickly Social Media has impacted our lives in the last decade and how popular it has become. A decade ago I didn't have a computer now I am constantly on the internet always checking forms of social media - Instagram, snapchat and of course Facebook.

As stated at the beginning of this article the purpose that Facebook was created for was to connect college students now, 10 years later it is a strong tool for marketers from all types of companies to use to reach out to consumers. Imagine what it will be used for in the next 10 years or whether there will be something completely different and new.
