10 Great Ways to Embrace a New Yoga Practice

10 Great Ways to Embrace a New Yoga Practice | I love Meditation For Relaxing | Scoop.it

Yoga is a meditative and spiritual practice as much as it is a physical one. When you’re new to any sort of practice, it’s always good to keep a few basics in mind...

Caspian Grey's insight:
Don’t compare yourself to others.

Remember, yoga is a non-competitive practice. There are no yoga championships, no national titles. You have no reason to be better than the person next to you. And in fact, if you’re spending a lot of time looking at others in the room, you’re not focusing on your own practice. The only reason you should be striving for improvement is because it’s right for you and your body at a given time.

Caspian Grey's insight:

These visions are then translated onto the page in the form of mixed media drawings that reveal what the mind beholds when devoid of sensory experience.

'Painting from this standpoint feels far more potent and sensate,' she says. 'The light I experience in a state of sensory deprivation is far greater than anything I have seen with my natural eyes.'

The delicate Japanese paper upon which she creates her pieces is 'almost skin-like' and serves as part of the performance art.

'I spend many hours with my body spread over the surface of the paper as I am painting,' she explains. 'At times the process will even lead me to wrap my body in the paper, like a second skin.'

Caspian Grey's insight:

    Chair Yoga

In my pocket journal I have recorded an eight-pose yoga sequence that can be done in a chair or sitting on the side of a bed. So even the tiniest hotel room can lend itself to this brief yoga practice. After doing these eight stretches each morning when I wake up, I feel reinvigorated and ready for the day. My body and mind respond well to the familiar feel of stretching and deep breathing and seem to "click in" to that deep place of equanimity that I cherish so much.

Caspian Grey's insight:

But how do the class participants feel about the class?

“There are a lot of things that separate us in a normal yoga class, like what brand of yoga clothing you’re wearing or how you look when you’re wearing it,” one attendee told Daily Mail. “But when we’re naked, it’s like we’re all the same.”

The class requires that all participating members do in fact go without clothing so everyone feels like they’re all equals.

Caspian Grey's insight:

A central aspect of Zen is meditation. Often it’s wise to start a meditation practice by resolving to meditate every day, at the same time if possible, and for a period of perhaps five minutes, so when your meditation time is over you want more and you’re ready to start again the next day. You can use a timer, if you wish; just choose a sound that you like. There are some really good apps for that! You can gradually lengthen the time spent meditating.

Enjoy peace and calm in your own meditation garden. Read this creative guide on how to turn your space into a meditative oasis, and let go of your worries.

Via Henrietta Marcella Paz-Amor
Caspian Grey's insight:

Think about what you love about being in the area in terms of relaxing and offloading your stress. Take those memories and feelings and translate them into practical ideas of how you would like to see a personal garden aimed totally at relaxation and peace. If any ideas occur, (for example, a blue and yellow theme would be attractive to you, or a wooden park bench), incorporate those things into your imagined garden. If you are going to share this garden with family or others, get their ideas and input too. And always remember that this is your garden; it’s your intent that counts when creating a meditation garden
