Jon Koob's insight:

I preach about everything in this video all the time. The current educational structure (in America, anyways) is outdated.

I've always agreed that people with passions in areas that require them to know minuscule pieces of data should be required to know them and know them well. I'm talking about positions like doctors and lawyers for instance. But there are SO many people that have passions in areas that SHOULD NOT require them to be judged by standardized tests that gauge intelligence on the ability to memorize small pieces of data that anyone in a real-world situation would simply pull out their phone to look up if need be.

SORRY FOR RANTING BUT THIS VID IS AWESOME.

Halfway through LeBron James's career, the NBA's best player hashes out the next half with Jeanne Marie Laskas
Jon Koob's insight:

Lebron James has changed. It's the people who think poorly of him who've stayed the same.

He's growing as a human being, and on his way to becoming a billionaire athlete. This article talks about his journey, where he's at, and where he wants to go.

And if you got the same vibe as I did, you know he's going to get there.

Are Nike's sneakers just too good at kicking people in the face? That's the $100 million question.
Jon Koob's insight:

This...this is insane. But for some reason, this guy may have a case. Regardless of how psychotic he may be, he may really have a case. I mean, he's already in prison, and who knows what kind of lawyers he has, I'm assuming nowhere near the caliber that Nike has.

It'll be interested to see how this follows up though...

Getting a Handle on the Axe Bat - Edge - SI.com

Getting a Handle on the Axe Bat - Edge - SI.com | I like sports and I don't care who knows. | Scoop.it

So awThe folks at Axe Bats, a Baden Sports brand, say the round knob at the bottom of a baseball or fastpitch bat does nothing for you. In fact, it gets in your way, forcing players to choke up away from it, hang fingers over it or pretty much do anything to get around the knob. While using a lathe 150 years ago necessitated having a knob, technology has advanced past that, Hugh Tompkins, Axe Bats’ director of research and development, tells SI.com. Tompkins says the advancement leads straight toward an axe.

Jon Koob's insight:

So awesome when sports equipment that had been designed the same for so long sees some sort of dramatic change. Baseball bats have been made with knobs at the end for over 100 years. But why? Was it doing anything for the hitter? Apparently not. It was actually causing a lot of things to go wrong during the natural motion/contact of a baseball swing hitting a ball.

This concept is awesome and I hope it sees more traction this spring and summer!

Doc Brown and Tony Hawk show off a real-life hoverboard (or not)

Doc Brown and Tony Hawk show off a real-life hoverboard (or not) | I like sports and I don't care who knows. | Scoop.it
Seemingly out of nowhere, a major promotional campaign for a "real" hoverboard known as HUVr has launched online today. It all began with a pair of bizarre video clips featuring testimonials from...
Jon Koob's insight:

I CAN'T BELIEVE THIS. No seriously, whatever this new HUVr company is doing, is genius. Regardless of whether or not the HUVr board is real or not, this marketing stint is going to turn heads, as it did mine.

You have Doc Brown (Christopher Lloyd), Tony Hawk, Moby, Terrel Owens, and even more celebrities in this video and then they're tweeting about it too. Mark Cuban even has a big section of their homepage covered. There's a countdown to December 2014 for whatever they're hiding to be unveiled. Maybe it really is a HUVrboard like everyone has dreamed about since Back To The Future.

Maybe it's a really lame marketing attempt for some crappy company. WHO KNOWS!?

But I'll tell you something, I want to find out.

Peyton Manning leaves crushing Super Bowl loss with reputation intact

Peyton Manning leaves crushing Super Bowl loss with reputation intact | I like sports and I don't care who knows. | Scoop.it
On the lowest of nights, after the Seahawks throttled his Broncos, Peyton Manning walked out of MetLife Stadium with his head held high.
Jon Koob's insight:

I was honestly upset with the Superbowl this year. Not because I wanted either team to win or lose, but because the game was an absolute blowout. The suffocating Seahawk's defense was far too much for Denver's O-line and secondary. Arguably the greatest quarterback of all-time, Peyton Manning, had an awful game (not all his fault, need I remind you).

What Manning was like after the game though, is truly astounding. I've never been a "super fan" by any means. But I've always had the most respect possible for the man. He's the epitome of class in the NFL. And this piece on his behavior after losing what some would call the most embarrasing Superbowl (to be defeated in) in the history of the sport, is really all you need to know about Manning.

Life is bigger than the game.
