How to Reinvent Project Based Learning to Be More Meaningful

How to Reinvent Project Based Learning to Be More Meaningful | i - Library | Scoop.it
Project-based learning continues to be misinterpreted as a single teaching strategy rather than as a set of design principles that allow us to introduce the philosophy of inquiry into education in an intelligent and grounded way. It’s time to not only address the flaws in PBL, but to reinvent it in a way that leads to deeper learning, creative inquiry, and a better fit with a collaborative world in which doing and knowing are one thing.

Tales of a 6th Grade Classroom: CCSS Aligned Lessons

Lindsey Fuller writes: "I have cross-referenced my technology lessons with the ELA CCSS for 6th grade. Although these are grade specific, the standards follow a continuum that should allow for easy adaptation to other grade levels. (Science and Social Studies alignments coming soon!)"

This is a great site to share with teachers who might still be hyperventilating about how to "do" Common Core.  Lindsey has generously shared her lessons, so teachers can see how to take what they already teach, and adapt to the Common Core. Lots of good stuff on her site, so be sure to explore!

5 Tools to Create a Collaborative Classroom | FractusLearning.com | i - Library | Scoop.it

Teachers often focus on tools such as blogs that allow their students to connect to the outside world. This is fantastic because it allows students to see how their learning connects to their ‘real’ lives and helps to bridge the gap between their school and home lives.

In order to create a collaborative classroom environment, however, students need to know how to work with each other as well as with people from around the world. There are a number of ways that students can use technology to connect to one another, both while at school and at home, to help create a collaborative environment.

How Does Your Boss See You?: Proof That Principals Value Librarians | School Library Journal

How Does Your Boss See You?: Proof That Principals Value Librarians | School Library Journal | i - Library | Scoop.it

Principals value their librarians. They also want them to be more visible leaders. Those are just two of the interesting findings from a recent survey of 102 media specialists and 67 principals. In fact, 90 percent of the administrators that we surveyed think we have a positive impact in schools—and a large number also feel that our jobs are important. That’s great news, considering only 65 percent of librarians in the study thought their bosses would recognize the valuable role we play.

“This list of EDSITEment resources includes lessons, websites, interactives, and featured articles aligned to the ELA, Common Core State Standards text exemplars. The CCSS exemplars are sample texts intended to guide educators as they thoughtfully select fiction and nonfiction texts to use as vehicles for teaching the Common Core. EDSITEment resources help unlock those authors’ stories, dramatic works, poetry, and informational texts. My iPad Challenge - Mr. Thornton's eLearning Site

My iPad Challenge - Mr. Thornton's eLearning Site | i - Library | Scoop.it

"Can you make it a week using only the iPad and not a dekstop computer? That is the question that I would like to attempt to answer this week as I take a challenge to work from an iPad for the whole week without using a desktop computer. I understand that this sounds like a first world problem or challenge but for someone who relies on a MacBook to do a lot different work throughout the day, this will definitely be a big challenge. My new found interest in this comes following a recent iPad conference with EdTech Teacher in Atlanta. After seeing some of the amazing things that teachers and students are doing with iPads, I thought I can do more with my iPad. I felt that the best way to do this would be to challenge myself to use my iPad more and using it exlusively will definitely be a challenge. So now I begin the iPad challenge. Here are a few ground rules I have established for the challenge:"
