Zynga, Bwin.Party Agree Real-Money Gambling Deal | GamblingCompliance

Social gaming giant Zynga has teamed up with Bwin.Party Digital Entertainment to offer real-money Internet gambling in the United Kingdom, the companies announced Wednesday.

In the first half of next year, the two gaming outfits will begin running poker and casino games — some 180 of them — targeting UK customers using Bwin.Party’s Gibraltar license.

On a conference call with analysts and investors Wednesday, Zynga executives, including CEO Mark Pincus, revealed very little about the deal.

In a joint press statement, the companies said only that Zynga’s real-money poker players will join Bwin.Party’s dot-com poker network, the world’s second largest behind industry behemoth PokerStars.

Will the EU Commission’s action plan for online gambling evolve to resolve regulatory fragmentation in Europe? | Totally Gaming

Will the EU Commission’s action plan for online gambling evolve to resolve regulatory fragmentation in Europe? | Totally Gaming | i-Gaming and Gambling | Scoop.it

In 2009 the European Parliament urged the European Commission to take a closer look, alongside national governments, at the economic and non-economic effects of the provision of cross-border gambling services. The parliamentary resolution, alongside a series of Presidency conclusions throughout 2008-2010, set in motion a flurry of investigative activity focused on online gambling led by the Commission. The Green Paper consultation process during 2011 was a direct result of this investigation and saw the different sectors and interest groups of the European gambling industry called over to Brussels for intense discussions on the increasingly popular, and seemingly unstoppable, phenomenon of online gambling....

Lottery Chiefs Seek Leadership on Sports Integrity | GamblingCompliance

Lottery bosses have called for the creation of a WADA-style agency to monitor integrity in sports at all levels, despite warnings of apathy and corruption among sports governing bodies.

International lottery supremos, including the outgoing and current presidents of the World Lottery Association (WLA), have urged national and state lotteries to ramp up their efforts in the fight against match-fixing at all levels of sport.

Speaking at the World Lottery Congress in Montreal last week, Risto Niemenen, the president of the World Lottery Association for the past two years, described match-fixing as a corrosive and deepening problem which could spell the end of competitive sports within a generation.

Niemenen, who remains CEO of Finnish lottery Veikkaus until October 1 this year, said: “It’s much worse than you can even think about. ...

Buenos Aires Gaming Dragged Into Political Standoff | gbgc

Buenos Aires Gaming Dragged Into Political Standoff | gbgc | i-Gaming and Gambling | Scoop.it

The nationalisation of the Argentine casino sector seems to be firmly on the agenda of the country’s President, Cristina Fernández de Kirchner (as GBGC has written about previously). This would be in keeping with government policy which has moved power away from the private sector and put it in the hands of the state. The seizure of Spanish-owned YPF, the country’s biggest oil company proved popular with most Argentines and proved a shrewd political move for the President. The President also seems eager to cut the ties between her and her late husband’s connections with local “gaming tsar” Cristóbal López who has a large stake in the racino in downtown Buenos Aires and the two “floating casinos” docked permanently to the harbour. ...

Beleaguered OPAP Rocked by Tax Hike, Primed for Sale by Government | GamblingCompliance

Beleaguered OPAP Rocked by Tax Hike, Primed for Sale by Government | GamblingCompliance | i-Gaming and Gambling | Scoop.it

OPAP’s tax load will be increased, sending its stock tumbling, as the Greek government bowed to European Commission pressure over favouritism claims.

OPAP, one of Europe’s biggest listed gambling companies, will pay a 30 percent levy on gross profit from games and players will pay a flat 10 percent tax on winnings from January 1, 2013, Greece’s finance ministry said on Wednesday.

The agreement complicates Greece’s plans to sell most of its stake in the state-controlled betting company by cutting OPAP’s future income.

Also late on Wednesday the Hellenic Republic Asset Development Fund took the first steps toward privatisation, approving terms for expressions of interest, with commencement of the OPAP tender process set within days. ....
