The vast majority of people surveyed want compromise in any deal to avert the so-called fiscal cliff. Republicans, Democrats and Independents all want compromise. A high 70 percent of Democrats say President Barack ...
Jacob Black's insight:
Most Americans right now want Obama and Congress to come to an agreement on the fiscal cliff, but the compromises that are on the table right now aren't exactly appealing. This raises the question of, "Should we drive off the fiscal cliff or attempt to find a solution?"
New York Times (blog)Poll: 21% of Small Business Owners Will Cut Their Workforce in 2013CNSNews.com(CNSNews.com) – A recent poll from the Wells Fargo/Gallup quarterly survey shows that U.S.
Jacob Black's insight:
Many are worried about our growing economic problem in the US and this is not a step in the right direction. With the fiscal cliff looming overhead, small businesses may have to cut their workforce in 2013 in order to stay on budget with potential tax hikes and other expenses. The main point to the article is that the situation we're in doesn't look to be getting much better and 2013 isn't starting with a step in the right direction.
This article peaked my interest because immigration is a huge issue in the US today, and many people think of it as a bad thing. The old racist remarks that immigrants take our jobs are not exactly true, in fact, immigrants create a lot of jobs for countries. Studies in the UK have shown that these immigrants actually contribute to a growing economy and we should always keep that in mind. One problem with our immigration system is that America makes it to hard for anyone to actually become a citizen, which of course makes them turn to illegal immigration, which in fact does not stimulate an economy. The immigration system in America as of now is very flawed and some new ideas need to taken into action. We should encourage immigrants to come to America in a legal manner, because in the end it will help us out. However, due to our poor immigration system, people will always turn to illegal immigration and it will keep hurting us until we find an optimal solution.
Voters in America are giving great approval and support to President Obama in finding a way to figure out the fiscal cliff. This is a huge issue in America right now and according to the article, Obama has hit his highest approval rating (Over 50%) since he took office. If Obama can find an optimal solution around the fiscal cliff, it would be great news for America not only financially, but it would make our current president look a lot better.
This article discussed a huge issue in our country right now and that if these tax hikes that could potentially be put in place at the start of 2013 are infact enforced, it could mean bad news for small business and our country. Small businesses could be laying off due to these tax hikes, and it's almost certain that hiring of new employees would be slowing down. Overall this is negative news for our country and anyone looking for jobs.
Report: Small business sales up 5.2 pct in November as holiday shopping ...Washington PostSmall business and large businesses alike had a busy month: Superstorm Sandy hammered much of the East Coast, the presidential election dominated consumer...
Jacob Black's insight:
Small business sales are up in America which is a great thing for our country. The backbone of our economy is built on small businesses and getting the public to spend more and more on it rather than huge corporations is something we need. While this increase in sales in the small business sector is a good sign, it's not going to take us out of any crisis' we're in. But overall this is good news and it's something everyone needs to take into consideration during this holiday season.
This article teaches us that the upcoming movie, "The Hobbit", actually somewhat represents small states and towns in today's world. The hobbits in the movie live in a village called the Shire, which is a completely self-governed town where families are the ones who run the small economy, where the only one in power is the mayor. A lot of people who live in places like this might claim Tolkien as one of their own due to the way he portrays the hobbit, it relates to their way of life. No corporations or huge leaders are in that way of life, instead The Shire works as a community, which in a sense could make for better relationships along with a better economy.
This article gives great advice for current or future citizens in the business/financial part of the workforce. The main idea is that cashflow should always be your number one priority with a client, and if you arent getting paid within to 2-5 weeks, you are essentially just a free source of credit. Personally, I like reading these kind of articles because it gives me advice for my future and I love the idea of getting ahead.
This article recommends that you list references on your job applications carefully. The references you list can actually make or break your chances at a job, and suprisingly a lot of people ignore this aspect. Some job-seekers list references who give them a negative review which heavily sways the opinion of someone looking to potentially hire you. Not only that but some will also list fake references which is definitely not the smart thing to do. Finally, the article recommends that you list colleagues or former bosses at least. I figured this would be common sense for everyone but one in ten people do not. Overall this article warned that you should be careful about who you list as a reference on your application when you're applying for your next job.
