Silverstone B-64 balloon still flying

The B-64 balloon launched at 06:51 GMT on July 12, 2014 from Silverstone (in the UK) is still in the air transmitting on 434.500 MHz using Contestia 64/1000 and APRS

On Saturday, October 3 Phil Heron MI0VIM reported decoding data while it was over the North Atlantic ocean, coming up to 6th time it would pass the United Kingdom on it's continuing journeys around the world.

B-64 was built by radio amateur Leo Bodnar M0XER, he made both the plastic foil envelope and the solar powered transmitter payload which weighs just 11 grams.

The future of Europe's seas – contribution of the LIFE programme to protecting and improving the marine environment

The LIFE Monitoring Team has published a thematic report on marine-related LIFE projects. Subtitled ‘The future of Europe’s seas’, the 116-page study analyses the LIFE programme’s contribution to protecting and improving the marine environment.

Previous studies have analysed LIFE’s impact on the water sector, noise and air and soil.

The principal objectives of the Marine Thematic Report were as follows:

To review current marine-related legislation;To review all marine-related LIFE projects to examine trends and the costs of implementation (both total and EU contributions);To review selected projects relating to the implementation of the Marine Strategy Framework Directive (MSFD) and associated Programmes of Measures (POMs), using SWOT analysis;To review selected projects that provide new solutions and best practice for implementation of EU legislation and policy in the most efficient way and a high potential for transferability within the EU; andTo understand the relevance of project approaches, including factors for failure or success of certain approaches. "

Chris Bailey cofounded a startup that is trying to build an unmanned solar-powered drone that can remain aloft for extended periods, serving as airborne Internet or communications stations, for example, or as a surveillance or surveying vehicle. The drones will have solar cells arranged along the upper surfaces of the wings that will continuously recharge its electric motors so they can fly nonstop for as long as two years.
