A group of Chinese-backed hackers have breached United Continental Holdings Inc., the company that owns United Airlines. The hackers have made off with data including manifests, which contain passenger information as well as destinations. The company has yet to speak broadly on the topic, only to have confirmed to Bloomberg that there was an attack. Researchers have speculated that the Chinese are building a massive database, and that combined with the data stolen from the personnel management office, the Chinese Intelligence Apparatus, as it were, could have a searchable index of the movements of federal employees. US corporate giants including Apple, Google, Microsoft, Berkshire Hathaway and Goldman Sachs are looking to invest at least $140bn (£90.2bn, €127.4bn) to shrink their carbon footprints, according to media reports.

Jeff Makana's insight:

Power plants are the largest single source of carbon pollution in the US, accounting for about one third of all domestic greenhouse gas emissions. The Clean Power Plan will set standards for carbon pollution from power plants, just as we have set limits on power plant emissions of harmful elements.
