| Gabriel Catalano human being | #INperfeccion® a way to find new insight & perspectives | Scoop.it

No. Eso no debería ocurrir.

A Mind-Blowing Map Of Energy Consumption In Every Single NYC Building

A Mind-Blowing Map Of Energy Consumption In Every Single NYC Building | Gabriel Catalano human being | #INperfeccion® a way to find new insight & perspectives | Scoop.it

How much power does any piece of a city block use? There’s no way to tell. A building’s facade, unless it’s covered with lights, isn’t exactly screaming its annual energy expenditures.

A new map by the School of Engineering and Applied Science at Columbia University gives us a picture of energy consumption in the five boroughs of New York, on a block-by-block basis.

It’s kind of like Google Maps for spotting the greediest energy hogs of the city (and it won’t surprise you that Manhattan is, by far, the biggest spender). You can zoom all the way down to your own building, if you’re so inclined, and see how your building stacks up.

Interestingly enough, the project isn’t just an example in smart data mapping; it’s an example of smart data extrapolation. The specific information on this map is actually a series of estimations.

Para Fortune, Steve Jobs es “El empresario más grande de nuestro tiempo” - FayerWayer | Gabriel Catalano human being | #INperfeccion® a way to find new insight & perspectives | Scoop.it

Steve Jobs (Apple)
Bill Gates (Microsoft)
Fred Smith (FedEx)
Jeff Bezos (Amazon)
Larry Page & Sergey Brin (Google)
Howard Schultz (Starbucks)

Google restablece a Chrome en los resultados de búsquedas | Geekets | Gabriel Catalano human being | #INperfeccion® a way to find new insight & perspectives | Scoop.it

Blogging service shootout: Blogger vs. WordPress | Gabriel Catalano human being | #INperfeccion® a way to find new insight & perspectives | Scoop.it

We pit Google's Blogger against WordPress to see which service is easier, more feature-filled and better for users who need a simple hosted blog.

There are a wealth of blogging services and software out there -- so which should you use? If you're a business or other professional organization, you probably want to use full-bore website building software that includes a blogging component. However, that type of software requires experience with server setups, HTML code and site management.

If you don't have that expertise, or want to spend your valuable time on creating content rather than wrangling with technical issues, you can opt for a service that hosts your blog for you -- for free. These hosted blogging services take care of all the nitty-gritty backend work, and allow you to focus on what's most important to you: The content of your blog.

They offer pre-built content management systems that make it easy to write, edit and manage blog posts, letting you decide whether to write using WYSIWIG editors or instead insert the code yourself. They also let you switch back and forth between the two when you want.

Information is free. Knowledge is not.

Information is free. Knowledge is not. | Gabriel Catalano human being | #INperfeccion® a way to find new insight & perspectives | Scoop.it

In business, everyone keeps confusing information with knowledge. It's a fatal mistake: Information may get you started, but knowledge is what separates winners from losers.

Information is ones and zeros. It’s raw data, or a list of facts. It’s instructions on filling out a business license, or the instructions Google provides when you sign up for Adwords. The obvious stuff. You can often acquire information for free: Go to the Associated Press for raw, un-analyzed news. Or read a ‘how to’ on building your own car.
Knowledge is something else entirely. It’s what you get when you combine information with analysis and experience. Knowledge is information distilled down to actions. It can and should cost you money, or time, or something else. If you want real analysis of the news you just grabbed from the Associated Press, for example, you might go to the New York Times and pay (at least after 10 views). To learn AdWords tricks that can actually help you profit, you’ll buy a book, pay for a seminar or hire a consultant.
You must pay for knowledge in money or effort. If you don’t understand this, you’re going to fail.

5 Cool and Clever QR-Code Marketing Campaigns | Gabriel Catalano human being | #INperfeccion® a way to find new insight & perspectives | Scoop.it
Looking for some inspired ways to put QR codes to work? Check out these 5 cool campaigns.Still not sure if quick response (QR) codes can really generate a big buzz for your business? The jury may still be out on how small businesses can use the codes, but 2011 was the year big companies proved that QR codes can be sticky.

Wasp Barcode Technologies, a company that offers QR code creators, has compiled a list of the most intriguing use of QR code marketing in 2011.

1. Tesco: No one may be as time-stretched as South Koreans. In order to help save time, U.K.-based Tesco supermarkets, found a clever way to bring the grocery store to the consumer. Tesco launched a QR code campaign that plastered enormous images of food items onto South Korean subway walls. These images came with a QR code and allowed consumers to scan individual food items to be loaded in their virtual shopping cart. Once they finished their checkout, their order was processed and delivered to the consumer's doorstep.

2. Heinz: Heinz, the ketchup people, cleverly used QR codes for their "Our Turn to Serve" promotion. The promotion gave Americans the chance to show their appreciation for those who have served in the military. By scanning the QR code located on the bottle of ketchup, consumers were able to leave personalized messages to American troops. In addition, for every thank you received, Heinz donated 57 cents to the Wounded Warrior Project.

Dotcom: El ejército norteamericano subió casi 95 mil GB de datos a Megaupload - FayerWayer

Dotcom: El ejército norteamericano subió casi 95 mil GB de datos a Megaupload - FayerWayer | Gabriel Catalano human being | #INperfeccion® a way to find new insight & perspectives | Scoop.it

“No hicimos nada mal. Será iluminadora y quizás entretenida”, dijo a TorrentFreak.

The Pew Research Center recently released their State of the News Media study for 2012, and, believe it or not, it’s not all bad news!
The annual study is an analysis of the health of journalism in America. This year’s study includes special reports on the impact of mobile technology and social media on news. Lets dig in and see what they say!

Evidence shows that the spread of mobile technology is adding to news consumption—that it’s actually boosting the reading of long-form journalism. Great news for you freelance writers out there who love storytelling.
People who use mobile devices, such as smartphones and tablets, are getting news on these devices, and appear to be getting it frequently. 34% of desktop or laptop computer users now also get news on their smartphones. 27% of smartphone news consumers also get news on their tablet.

But while online audiences grew, print circulation continued to decline. So did ad revenues. When circulation and advertising revenue are combined, the newspaper industry has shrunk 43% since 2000. Here are some of the major trends the study recognized.

¡Ya era hora!: el botón de | Gabriel Catalano human being | #INperfeccion® a way to find new insight & perspectives | Scoop.it

By Combing Social Media, LocalResponse Gets Down to Business

By Combing Social Media, LocalResponse Gets Down to Business | Gabriel Catalano human being | #INperfeccion® a way to find new insight & perspectives | Scoop.it

Nihal Mehta has started several successful businesses. His most recent venture is LocalResponse, and it just may be something that turns traditional advertising and marketing on their head.

You are fed up with AT&T's customer service, so you change your Facebook status, tweet your displeasure or post in another social media forum to let others know just how you feel about AT&T. Seconds later, you receive a message, not from your friends, but from Verizon offering you $100, if you switch.

Think that sounds like something out of the future? Think again. That is an actual campaign being conducted by a new social advertising platform called LocalResponse.

"This is a relatively new phenomenon that people are raising their hand and saying, 'I'm here,'" said Nihal Mehta, CEO and co-founder of LocalResponse. "They are broadcasting their location and what they are doing." Mehta said his company analyzes that data and helps marketers respond with relevant offers.

LocalResponse is able to do that by analyzing data posted on Twitter, Facebook, foursquare and other social media platforms to target customers both with banner ads and exclusive offers that apply to people's purchasing decisions.

I always knew I wanted to create something on my own

LocalResponse launched in 2011, but Mehta's career in business began well before then.

"My real inspiration to start my own business came from watching my parents build a business in the basement of my house when I was 7 years old," Mehta said. "I literally got to see the Ping-Pong table turn into a full office. My dad came over from India in the 1970s with $1,000 in his pocket that he had borrowed from his uncle. It was definitely the American dream story. I always knew I wanted to create something on my own."

That interest was strengthened when Mehta interned at Microsoft. In 1999, when Mehta was a senior at the University of Pennsylvania he started Philly Tonight, an Internet-based city guide. Soon after starting the business Mehta had a tough decision to make.

"A big turning point happened when I graduated college," Mehta said. "I was offered a job with Goldman Sachs, I still have the signed offer letter in my possession, and all of a sudden we had a website that was growing as well. My parents told me, 'You can always go back to Goldman Sachs, now is the time to jump into your business.' I never looked back."

Philly Tonight soon turned into a network of city guides called Urban Groove, but when the dot-com bubble burst, Mehta was forced to adapt.

"We created a program with Philly Tonight that allowed any user to put in their phone number and select what city they were in and what music they liked," Mehta said. "So if you liked hip-hop and you were in New York City we would text you that evening our hip-hop recommendation for that evening and that service became really popular. That was before there was interoperability with text messages on different carriers and we registered 10,000 people in a short amount of time."

Mehta felt there was potential to take that feature and turn it into a business-to-business service. In 2001, Mehta started ipsh!, one of the first full-service mobile marketing agencies. After initial struggles, Mehta soon had McDonald's, Coca-Cola, Proctor and Gamble and Unilever as clients. The success of ipsh! drew the attention of top marketers. After months of negotiations, Mehta sold ipsh! to Omnicom in 2005.

Mehta began working for Omnicom and started investing in other businesses, including AdMob, which was acquired by Google in 2009 for $750 million. Mehta soon tired of his new role.

But whatever you want to call it, it’s a very smart way to help keep important controls visible on windows that get dragged partially offscreen.

It works like this: when a window gets dragged offscreen, the controls on the toolbar will shift to fill any remaining space in order to stay visible. T
