You know, with characters like Red Sonja and Miss Fury (and now Black Sparrow!) Dynamite has a pretty good roster of ass-kicking ladies.  I’ve also always been a huge fan of the Katee Sackhoff portrayal of Starbuck on Battlestar Galactica.  There’s just something about that combination of tough and sexy that really hits the target.  Uma Thurman in KILL BILL is pretty kick ass too.  I think there is a sub-category of female characters in comics and movies and literature unofficially known as “I dig her but she scares me.”

Like them or loathe them we cannot escape the people we work with. In Relationships in Organisations: A Work Psychology Perspective,1 Rachel L. Morrison, Helena D. Cooper-Thomas and Susan Geertshuis explore the positive and negative effects of the workplace. A delightfully succinct insight into the many relationship types which exist at work.  Of particular interest, at this time, is the consignment of the bully into three categories - predatory, purposeful, and unaware.  This European Business Review article acknowledges that regular change is a breeding ground for the purposeful bully.

Here are three fascinating things that happened once our posture changes:

For example, when we sit up straight, we are more likely to remember positive memories or think of something positive in general, according to this experiment.

Another insight was that if we skip during breaks, we can significantly increase our energy levels. A slow, slumped walk on the other hand, can do the exact opposite and drain us of our energy.

The study also found that those who were most affected by depression before the study found their energy drained more than others...."

Anima Mundi, cities, soul of the world, James Hillman. | Universaliss | Scoop.it
Contemporary social science applied to a secure, balanced human relationship with our earthly environment through an emergent Unifying Science, change to the collective unconscious and systemic holism.

If psychology is by definition work with the soul. And if nature and culture have soul, then psychology must concern itself with this larger sphere.
Hillman argues strongly against reducing soul to personal subjectivity, naming personalism as one of the burdens of the modern era.

Psychology assumes that only humans are persons, and therefore we are given the impossible responsibility of carrying the full weight of soul. We tend to interpret everything in terms of personal relationships. Even therapy is often defined as the interaction of two persons, and the goal in therapy is the personal development or growth of the private individual.

The soul is not of itself personal. Of course the psyche presents itself in images of persons and in personal feelings, but it is more than personal. Carl Jung used the phrase objective psyche, suggesting that when we look into the soul we are looking at something with its own terrain, its own history and purposes, and its own principles of movement and stasis... The Religious Mammal

"Religious experience is absolute. It is indisputable. You can only say that you have never had such an experience. No matter what the world thinks about religious experience, the one who has it possesses the great treasure of a thing that has provided him with a source of life, meaning and beauty and that has given a new splendor to the world and to mankind." Carl G. Jung

THE RELIGIOUS MAMMAL

What an amazing contemporary thought, that the human being is a "religious mammal." It is amazing because it implies that since we are human, we are religious by nature, by simply being alive as human. If this is so, and I believe it is, then the human being will reveal religious behavior as far back as we find recorded human history....

The Middle Passage: From Misery to Meaning in Midlife

The Middle Passage: From Misery to Meaning in Midlife | Universaliss | Scoop.it

I’ve recently read Jungian analyst James Hollis’s book, The Middle Passage: From Misery to Meaning in Midlife. It is one of the best books on this developmental phase, and its many opportunities, that I’ve read. The author says that childhood lasts until around age 12, the first adulthood from around ages 12 to 40, and the second adulthood–if a person chooses to progresss–from around age 40 to old age.

Many people never pass from childhood to adulthood developmentally, but are overgrown children, and many people never pass from the first adulthood into the second, and thus have unlived lives.

Hollis writes that the middle passage presents us with the opportunity to reexamine our lives and to ask, “Who am I apart from my history and the roles I have played?” It is an occasion for redefining and reorienting the... (click title for more)

Some excellent insights into why people get angry.

The key points I take from this are that strenghtening our life skills such as problem solving, creativity, communication, emotional control and self awareness gives us the ability to have the empathy and understanding not to demonise others which justifies our anger against them.
