Computer Sharing the hp Printer is on a Different Subnet

ISSUE:

Cannot locate a shared Windows printer in Macintosh OS 10.3 when the computer sharing the printer is on a different subnet.

NOTE:

The information in this document is specific to Mac OS 10.3.

SOLUTION:

In Mac OS X 10.3, Printer Setup Utility allows you to add a printer that is being shared by a Microsoft Windows PC. However, Printer Setup Utility may not see some shared Windows printers. One of the reasons is that the computer sharing the printer is on a different subnet.

Printers shared by Windows PCs that are on a different subnet than your Mac will not be listed. You can manually add printers shared by a Windows computer on another subnet using the steps below. Be sure to use the computer's IP address—not the computer's workgroup and name when adding the printer manually.

How to manually add a Windows shared printer:

Open Printer Setup Utility (located in /Applications/Utilities ).

Mac OS X 10.4.x users: Choose Add Printer from the Printers menu, then hold the Option key while clicking the "More Printers " button.

Mac OS X 10.3.x users: Hold the Option key down while choosing Add Printer from the Printers menu.

Choose Advanced from the first pop-up menu.

Choose Windows Printer via SAMBA from the Device pop-up menu.

In the Device Name field, type the name you would like to use for this printer in Mac OS X.

In the Device URI field, use one of the following formats to link to the printer:

smb://user:password@workgroup/server/sharename

smb://user:password@server/sharename

smb://workgroup/server/sharename

How to Clean a C3100

How to Clean a C3100 | Hp Printer Support | Scoop.it

Periodically you need to clean your HP Photosmart C3100 All-In-One printer to keep it functioning properly. Over time the scanning glass on the printer, as well as the inside of the cover that sits on the glass, becomes dirty and spotted enough to affect the quality of documents scanned by the printer. Ink can accumulate on the contact points on the print cartridges, causing the print quality to diminish until you clean the printer thoroughly.

Instructions

Press the printer's "Power" button to turn it off, then unplug the power cord from the back of the printer to avoid accidentally turning it on during the cleaning. Pull up on the printer's top cover to expose the scanning glass.

Spray a microfiber cloth with a nonabrasive glass cleaner until the cloth is moist. Rub the cloth on the scanning glass to remove any buildup. Rub a dry microfiber cloth on the glass to dry it after you finish the cleaning.

Sponsored Links

Dampen another microfiber cloth with warm water and soap, then use the cloth to clean the inside of the scanning glass lid. Dry the lid with another dry microfiber cloth, then lower it back to the original position. Plug the power cord back into the printer and press the "Power" button. Fold open the ink cartridge access door on the printer and wait for the cartridge carriage to stop moving. Push down on the front of each of the ink cartridges, then pull them toward the front of the printer to remove them from the carriage.

Clean the copper contacts on the cartridges using a clean and dry cotton swab. Avoid touching the nozzles on the bottom of the cartridges. Insert the cartridges into their slots in the carriage, then press up on the bottom front edge of the cartridges until they click into place. Lower the ink access cover.

Error code in hp designjet printer series

Issue

Printer driver was not install

This document describes how to fix the following error when trying to install printer driver using the Add Printer wizard in Microsoft Windows XP:

Printer Driver was not Installed. Operation Could not be Completed

Solution

When you click Finish in the Add Printer wizard in Microsoft Windows XP, you may receive the following error message:

Printer driver was not installed. Operation could not be completed.

This issue occurs when installing incompatible drivers for Microsoft Windows XP. For example, if the operating system type is Microsoft Windows XP 32-bit Operating System, and if the printer driver that is being installed is for the Microsoft Windows XP 64-bit Operating System, this error may occur. To resolve the error, download and install the printer driver that is intended for the specific operating system type.

The error message "Printer Driver was not Installed. Operation Could not be Completed." on Microsoft Windows XP can also occur due to following reasons, even if the printer driver is correct:

User does not have the administrative rights.

In this case, the solution is to log in as an administrator and then install the correct printer driver.

Incorrect or Corrupt port is selected when installing printer driver.

In this case, the solution is to install the printer driver to the default port, such as LPT1 or File.

Once the printer driver is correctly installed, go to the properties of the printer driver, and then select the correct port.

Incorrect or printer driver of an older version is installed, and the operating system is unable to overwrite the current printer driver, or any application using the current printer driver is open.

In this case, the solution is to close all the applications running on the computer and un-install the older version of printer driver completely. Restart your computer, and then try installing the new printer driver. See More ( )

Common Problems that the print and scan in hp all in one printers

Common Problems that the print and scan in hp all in one printers | Hp Printer Support | Scoop.it

Check the cartridge compatibility.

Replace incompatible cartridges.

For more information on how to clean the printhead, see instructions in this document to clean the print head

Troubleshooting Steps...

If these steps resolved the issue, you do not need to continue troubleshooting.

If the issue persists, continue to the next solution.

Load the paper print side down in the input tray. Many papers have printing and nonprinting sides, like photo paper and other special media. Usually, the smoother side is the "print side," and sometimes the non-print side has a logo of the paper manufacturer on it.

Do not use wrinkled or curled paper. Load only clean, wrinkle-free paper into the product.

Step 1:

INSTRUCTION 1: Do not use wrinkled paper

Use the correct paper type for your project.

For everyday text documents, plain paper with ColorLok technology works well. Paper with ColorLok technology is industry-standard paper that works well with HP ink.

Step 2:

INSTRUCTION 2: Plain paper with ColorLok technology is recommended for text printing

For documents with dense printing, such as high contrast graphics or photographs, use HP Advanced Photo Paper for the best results.

Some media may not absorb ink as well as others. If your prints smear easily, make sure you are using a recommended paper.

Store photo paper in its original packaging inside a resealable plastic bag. Store the paper on a flat surface in a cool, dry place. Load 10-20 sheets of photo paper only when you are ready to print, and then put the unused paper back in the packaging.

Try using a different paper. This will determine if the problem is related to the paper.

If the issue persists, continue to the next step.. See More ()

How to Fix an Error on a Laserjet 3100

How to Fix an Error on a Laserjet 3100 | Hp Printer Support | Scoop.it

All-in-one units like the HP LaserJet 3100 combine the functions of a printer, scanner, copier and fax machine into a single unit, saving both desk space and money. While these products can provide excellent service, it is a good idea for printer owners to have some basic troubleshooting skills at their disposal. Being able to fix your own HP LaserJet 3100 can save you a great deal of money, time and hassle.

Instructions

Clear Document From Scanner

Pull open the document release lever. This will allow you to access any paper jammed in the printer. Remove the jammed paper.

Check the position of the media lever. The lever should be on the right for thick paper like card stock and to the left for plain paper.

Reload the paper tray and start the scan again. Watch as the paper feeds into the unit to make sure it does not skew.

No Dial Tone

Press the manual dial key to test for a dial tone. Check to make sure the unit is connected to the wall jack if no dial tone is heard.

Turn up the volume by pressing the "Volume" button on the unit's control panel and press the dial tone button again. If the volume is off you will not be able to hear the dial tone even if the unit is working properly.

Verify that the phone line is working by connecting a phone to the phone cord. Replace the phone cord if there is no dial tone on the test phone.

Go to the "Fax Functions" menu and press the "Start" option to clear the fax memory. This will reset the unit.

How to Troubleshoot an HP Printer's Problem Printing

How to Troubleshoot an HP Printer's Problem Printing | Hp Printer Support | Scoop.it

Using the
setup disc that comes with your HP printer helps ensure the correct drivers and
ports are installed. However, even after completing the installing, sometimes
your printer fails to operate correctly. Troubleshooting an HP printer printing
problem begins with checking the printer for errors and working your way
through common causes. The HP website provides you with contact information if
you are unable to solve your printing problem after troubleshooting your HP printer.

Instructions

Review the screen on the HP printer
and your computer screen. If an error code is provided, use your book to
determine the meaning of the code.

Check the
printer and make sure the power is on. If the printer is switched on, a light
appears on the button. Make sure the printer is plugged into an outlet and
connected to your computer with a USB cable if you do not use a network
printer.

Click on the "My Computer"
icon on your computer screen. Locate the "Change a setting" title
under "System Task". Click on it
then locate the "Printers and Faxes" icon in the new window. Click on
the icon and make sure the HP printer has a check beside it as your default
printer.

Turn the printer off and then switch it back on to
reset internal
settings that may have turned off. Allow the printer to remain off for at least
60 seconds.

Follow the manufacturer's instructions and perform a
self-test on the HP printer. If it fails, the printer is not working properly
and needs repair. Otherwise, print a test page by pressing the "Print
Screen" button at the top right of your keyboard. If no page prints, the
printer is not communicating with your computer properly.

Replace the USB cables running from the

printer to your
computer to ensure it is working. Check the communication port by clicking
on "Printers and Faxes" and then left clicking with your mouse
pointer over the HP printer icon. Click on "properties" and then
click the tab for "Ports." Make sure the HP port is checked.

How to Troubleshoot HP Printer Slipping Problems

How to Troubleshoot HP Printer Slipping Problems | Hp Printer Support | Scoop.it

HP inkjet and laser printers may occasionally suffer from a problem
known as "slipping" or "ghosting," which causes images to
be printed either off center or multiple times on the same page, and can also
cause a grinding noise. Although the problem may be caused by a mechanical
defect that must be repaired, there are several instances in which you can
troubleshoot the issue and resolve it at home.

Instructions

Turn on your computer and access the HP printing
software that you installed when you first set up the printer. Click on the
"Tools" menu and then choose the "Options" or
"Settings" tab. Click on the
option to run a self-cleaning. Wait for the self-cleaning process to completely
finish and then attempt to print you original document again and see if you are
still experience a slipping problem.

Check

the manual that came with your HP printer to see if it has a recalibration
process. Follow the steps described in the manual or instead try the standard
re-calibration process if you don't have your manual. Start the standard
re-calibration by pressing and holding the "Cancel," "OK,"
"Black" and "Color" buttons on the top of the printer for
two seconds and then pressing the power button. Press the power button to turn
it back on, then turn it off and then back on again. Wait for the printer to go
through its calibration process and then attempt to print again.

Open the top of the HP printer
and remove and re-insert the ink cartridges if it is an inkjet printer, or the
laser toner and fuser box if it is a laser printer. Make sure they are properly
installed and are not wiggling in their carriages. Close the top and attempt to
print again.

Replace

the ink cartridges or laser toner and fuser box entirely in case they are
defective, and attempt to print again.

Go to the official HP support
website and type in the model of printer you have (see Resources below). Click
on the "downloads" link and then
click on "Drivers." Download and install the latest version of the
driver for your printer and then attempt to print again.
