Amazon Files Patent for Selfie Payments

Transactions would require users to perform certain actions, such as a smile, blink or tilting of the head.

Via Brian Yanish - MarketingHits.com
Art Jones's insight:

Amazon has just announced a new and novel Patent that enables Amazon users a new way to confim the ordering of products. The patent says Amazon users will be asked by the system, in real time, to authorize payment with a blink, wink of the eye or tilt and nod of the head.

What I find interesting about the payment authorization model is how these physical jestures eliminate the need to type a password, yet more importantly they become part of the gammification and secret handshake only Amazon users enjoy.

With this payment method Amazon introduces yet another advance that only Amazon user will enjoy making the payment method another way Amazon embraces it's users as part of the Amazon #TRIBE.       #MARKETING  #LEADERSHIP

Why Adding Constraints Increases Innovation - Forbes

Why Adding Constraints Increases Innovation - Forbes | Modern Marketing Revolution | Scoop.it
The more limited you are, the more creative you have to be.
Art Jones's insight:

So this article demonstrates yet again that LESS is MORE. The phrase less is more is often interpreted to express the notion that a spartan approach bears more fruit.

Another way to think about justifying constrain when we are seeking to nurture creative endeavors is to treat the pursuit of creativity in the same way we tend to our gardens where the rule is "don't over water the plants".

Study: 78% Of Salespeople Using Social Media Outsell Their Peers

Study: 78% Of Salespeople Using Social Media Outsell Their Peers | Modern Marketing Revolution | Scoop.it
When Jim Keenan, the social sales specialist, describes his work today, he’ll tell you that he’s “ushering salespeople from the old world into the social world” - the cold calling world to the Twitter world, the salespeople who call prospects incessantly...

Via Sergey Gusarov
Art Jones's insight:

This article is chocked full of compelling statistics that suggest, when salespeople invest their time in social media, they exceed quota on a consistent basis.

Social media is here to stay and the sales executive that does not currently mandate that their sales team employ social as part of the sales strategy risk being left behind. However, I submit that success with social media as sales strategy requires strategy, thus this article requires just a wee bit of refinement. So here goes, social media is a tool like a hammer and absent a vision, mission and plan it's still just like a hammer (just another tool).

Social media becomes added value to the selling effort when salespeople:

  • Determine which platform (s) their ideal prospects congregate on
  • Begin with a long term STRATEGY for using the tool
  • Work to build credibility, authority and influence via their online activities

Once the salesperson has done the work to understand where their prospects are online then they do the work to establish themselves as trusted advisor within those conversations taking place within those online communities.  When the salesperson has established themselve as a voice with authority and Klout then they are well positioned to reap the benefits of their time investment on the social platforms.

Maximizing your ability to close new sales via social media requires you think strategically then committing to do the work of establish the credibility of the brand called YOU online.
