Crossing the Experience Divide: Creating positive, lasting experiences is a crucial mandate for any brand - Brian Solis

Crossing the Experience Divide: Creating positive, lasting experiences is a crucial mandate for any brand - Brian Solis | Modern Marketing Revolution | Scoop.it
Art Jones's insight:

Providing customer experiences is the future of business. The luxury brand Burberry gets the importance of providing customer experiences. They have engineered customer experiences so they are enveloped in the stories they share about their garments. Burberry experiences are visual and intended to be injected directly into our personal life narratives.

Go into a Burberry shop and grab a full length coat, put it on. Now walk to a full length mirror to see how the garment looks on you. Wait for it, wait for it, then voila, the RFID tag within the garment signals the screen embedded in the mirror to play a video that shows the herd of sheep that the wool in your coat was shorn from. Next you will see a scene of the factory worker that machined that wool into fabric. Finally you'll see the garmento that cut the pattern that tailors the fabric into your jacket. The story of the jacket, the RFID technology, the video provides an amazing scintillating experience, The experience that Burberry leadership make available to it's shoppers suggest that they understand how to sell very expensive luxury fashion apparel. They are selling apparel and the experience  of shopping at Burberry.

What are you doing to provide experiences where your prospects and customers say, WOW?

Rival Social Networks Gain Users, but Facebook Captures More Attention | Modern Marketing Revolution | Scoop.it
Rival social networks are catching up to Facebook in the sheer number of U.S. users, but Facebook is pulling further ahead in how “engaged” its users are, according to a survey by Pew Research.
Art Jones's insight:

Excerpt: Rainie said “People are diversifying their social media usage,” while using Facebook as a kind of “home base.” Just like people once used telephones and handwritten letters for different purposes, they may pick and choose social-media properties based on the situation.

Ask Your Customers for Predictions, Not Preferences - HBR

Ask Your Customers for Predictions, Not Preferences - HBR | Modern Marketing Revolution | Scoop.it
A gamified approach to market research.
Art Jones's insight:

Excerpt:

Purchase intent is notoriously overstated in survey responses, showing little correlation with actual sales performance. Perhaps it’s because we tend to be rationally driven in survey responses and emotionally driven in the heat of the shopping moment. Whatever the reason, as consumers we are lousy predictors of our own future behavior.

In contrast, when you ask a diverse group of people not “What are you going to do?” but rather, “What is going to happen?” the results tend to be far more accurate. That’s the phenomenon underlying the growing popularity of prediction markets, which are used to anticipate the likely success of an idea, product, or political candidate.

How Do You Respond to a New Idea? - CCL e-Newsletter January 2015 | Modern Marketing Revolution | Scoop.it
Caution, skepticism, judging and dismissal may be understandable - and typical - responses to ideas that are new. Yet those responses kill innovation.
Art Jones's insight:

"Innovation doesn't happen without leadership. Regardless of the brilliance of your strategy, remember that the culture will support it or kill it. Since leaders have such a significant impact on the culture, it's up to you as the leader to develop it. So, the next time you hear a new idea or are asked to weigh in on a new solution, make a choice to lead innovation — or let an opportunity pass you by."

The 3 Ways Entrepreneurs Fail at Personal Branding

The 3 Ways Entrepreneurs Fail at Personal Branding | Modern Marketing Revolution | Scoop.it
While personal branding can help drive a company's success, too often entrepreneurs either ignore the strategy or screw up the execution.
Art Jones's insight:

Creating your personal brand isn't  just coming up with an elevator pitch that you like.  The world is full of failed entrepreneurs that figured their elevator pitch was enough to inform people what they stood for. Unfortunate for those entrepreneurs people in markets today have a very highly developed internal BS meter and can tell authentic from untrue.

People in todays markets are the most empowered people ever, with Google & Siri always at the ready to serve up an online representation of what we say, where we say it and whom we say it too, and all of that information is just a fingertip away. Studies have shown that 80% of people, consult an on or offline network prior to making any purchase decision.

So, brand building isn't your elevator pitch. Brand building is an amalgamation of the authentic brand called you on and offline as such it requires work but the return on your effort will pay dividends because people in markets will always see the true brand called you.

Art Jones's insight:

In the near future, all moving parts (engine, drive train, brakes) and the entire electrical system will be online thanks to implementation of The Internet of Everything #IOE.

The marriage of thoroughly connected devices passing data over to other devices and command central is beginning to change everything. Next to arrive on the scene will be the driverless car & truck arriving at a depot and destination near you.

The Authenticity Paradox - HBR

The Authenticity Paradox - HBR | Modern Marketing Revolution | Scoop.it
Why feeling like a fake can be a sign of growth
Art Jones's insight:
Why Leaders Struggle with Authenticity

The word “authentic” traditionally referred to any work of art that is an original, not a copy. When used to describe leadership, of course, it has other meanings—and they can be problematic. For example, the notion of adhering to one “true self” flies in the face of much research on how people evolve with experience, discovering facets of themselves they would never have unearthed through introspection alone. And being utterly transparent—disclosing every single thought and feeling—is both unrealistic and risky.
