Christopher Chao's insight:

This is just something I found rather funny. I do find it good of the family to retake the cat in just because they realized it wasn't its fault in the first place and it deserves a second chance. I do find it in the fault of the parents though for not watching the child's actions against the cat. This could of been prevented from the beginning because many people know the nature of babies and how they want to explore and the nature of a cat if it gets irritated... sooo...

Active Reading Strategies and Tips from Dartmouth College

Via Kim Vose
Christopher Chao's insight:

These myths seems true though to some extent because I don't think I could comprehend something as well as them because I need to if I were to read it faster than the usual pace I normally read at. I also think that reading every word would be myth but they would help too. I wish people would also stop generalizing for others how somethings are effective and how somethings are not.

Chevron wins Ecuador legal battle

Chevron wins Ecuador legal battle | How to English? | Scoop.it

A judge in the US has ruled that lawyers representing Amazonian villagers used bribes to secure compensation worth billions of dollars from oil company Chevron in Ecuador.

Via Juan Carlos Hernandez
Christopher Chao's insight:

The ability of money is very powerful. They were able to buy themselves out of a lawsuit and get away with damaging the environment which is not cool. Money is used for the wrong things these days and can be used for so much evil. I think Chevron should lose their case and what gives the right for the US Judges to decide. This matter takes place in Ecuadorian territory not American so they have no rights in my opinion.

Banning Books In The 21st Century

You'd probably expect the Nazis to ban books, but did you know the threat still exists today? http://twitter.com/rocketboom https://www.facebook.com/rocketboom.

Via Suzanne Hamilton
Christopher Chao's insight:

This video was very interesting, learning that some books that should be "banned" often are books we see everyday like Harry Potter. The book about killing people with bare hands or internet terrorism I could see why though. I wonder what other books have made it to the ban list that we see everyday. Some People are just over reacting to its contents.

Do Kids Need to Learn Cursive Writing?

Do Kids Need to Learn Cursive Writing? | How to English? | Scoop.it
Kids do a lot of learning on computers and tablets at home and school. Do they still need to learn cursive writing? (RT @DavidFifeVP: Do Kids Need to Learn Cursive Writing?
Christopher Chao's insight:

I think that it is very essential for kids of this generation and future generations to learn cursive and not have it removed from the school system in any country that teaches a cursive form. I know Chinese has cursive and it is slowly becoming less frequent in schools like English cursive. It was shown to help promote brains thinking processes. Why wouldn't you want to learn how to write all fancy and pretty also?

Major changes coming to SAT, College Board says | UPI.com

Major changes coming to SAT, College Board says | UPI.com | How to English? | Scoop.it

The College Board has announced plans to introduce major changes to the SAT.

Via #OpDejaVu
Christopher Chao's insight:

This doesn't really have to do with writing composition and rhetoric but the College Board has decided to go easier on the english vocabulary and chose to remove the essay from part of the exam. This reverts the SAT back to its original form Pre 2005. This will have the impact on how people will study for the english part and what will be tested. This should be an interesting topic up in the air and seeing how it all plays out.

Break Out of that Writing Rut: Tell-Don't Show-and Write More of What You Love! via PHILOSBOOKS

Break Out of that Writing Rut: Tell-Don't Show-and Write More of What You Love! via PHILOSBOOKS | How to English? | Scoop.it

Writing is hard work. You are faced with a blank sheet of paper. Don't let this stop you.

Via Penelope
Christopher Chao's insight:
Getting writers' block is not a fun scenario.  Preventing you from finishing and getting your thought through in word form. This is sure to help someone in the future and let the write on! There are many methods in this article. My favorite thing from this article is the quote " Remember, it only takes an ant picking up and placing one grain of sand to build an anthill.

To write an entire book, it only takes the first word, then the next, and the next."
