Charles Leadbeater: The era of open innovation | Video on TED.com

TED Talks In this deceptively casual talk, Charles Leadbeater weaves a tight argument that innovation isn't just for professionals anymore. Passionate amateurs, using new tools, are creating products and paradigms that companies can't.
Geoff Morton-Haworth's insight:

My innovation - the Yala - illustrates Leadbeater's point. I am still discovering how we can benefit from a platform for collaboration that has been specifically designed to aid the emergence of collective intelligence.

Most of what is written about collaboration is positive. Even hip. Collaboration is championed enthusiastically by the Enterprise 2.0 experts, as well as leading thinkers like Don Tapscott, as the crucial approach for the 21st century.
Geoff Morton-Haworth's insight:

A "straw man" to sell a book advocating collaboration. It is always a good idea to be aware of the risks. There are dangers in expressing any dissenting view, but surely collaboration is all about reducing those dangers, about making it safe to talk.

Tomasello-Michael-2012-Two-Key-Steps-in-the-Evolution-of-Human-Cooperation.pdf

Geoff Morton-Haworth's insight:

The authors of this study argue that humans developed cooperative skills because it was in their mutual interest to work well with others—indeed ecological circumstances forced them to cooperate with others to obtain food. In other words, altruism isn't the reason we cooperate; we must cooperate in order to survive, and we are altruistic to others because we need them.
