Social Media Security Tips [INFOGRAPHIC]

Social Media Security Tips [INFOGRAPHIC] | How the mind works | Scoop.it

In the past 5 years social media growth has exploded around the globe and, as platforms such as Twitter and Facebook expand and begin to increasingly mirror and reflect “real life”, they take on many of the problems of the offline world, too.

For example: security. With millions of social media views, updates and registrations taking place literally each and every minute, the potential for identify thieves, hackers and good, old-fashioned burglars to exploit your personal information has never been greater.

Which means it’s solely your responsibility to ensure you’re protecting yourself when using these channels...

Or is it just a figment of our imagination?

Are we tricking our minds into thinking this action is really "calming us down?" Or does metitation really trigor a Parasympathetic hormone that causes us to calm down and relax? Watch this seminar and make your own conclusion.

Ivon Prefontaine's curator insight, March 3, 10:48 AM

We do not build leaders. Having said that, teachers are leaders by the very vocation of teaching. Pedagogy is leading. Education is a forming, nurturing, and leading  process for students and teachers. The problem might be we manage too many things and leading is about letting go and opening up.

Bailey Rufer's curator insight, April 10, 11:19 AM

Being a leader in the classroom is fairly important, especially when leading kids towards their future. Being a teacher leader is very important because you're the person that gives students the tools to a bright future. You are the person that is able to bend and form a student into a "bright star", and teachers that lead are always there for children to look up to.

Body maps show where we feel emotion

Body maps show where we feel emotion | How the mind works | Scoop.it

Engineering and psychology researchers in Finland investigated where we feel and don't feel. The team showed the volunteers two blank silhouettes of person on a screen and then told the subjects to think about one of 14 emotions: love, disgust, anger, pride, etc. The volunteers then painted areas of the body that felt stimulated by that emotion. On the second silhouette, they painted areas of the body that get deactivated during that emotion.

How cannabis use during adolescence affects brain regions associated with schizophrenia

New research from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI) published in Nature's Neuropsychopharmacology has shown physical changes to exist in specific brain areas implicated in schizophrenia following the use of cannabis during adolescence. The research has shown how cannabis use during adolescence can interact with a gene, called the COMT gene, to cause physical changes in the brain.

If The Planet Really Did Revolve Around Your City: Isidro Blasco's 3D Urban Panoramas

If The Planet Really Did Revolve Around Your City: Isidro Blasco's 3D Urban Panoramas | How the mind works | Scoop.it
When you’re in a big city humming with activity, it’s not unusual to feel like the world revolves around you. On each trip to a new place, artist Isidro Blasco climbs up to the tallest buildings and documents what exactly “the world” looks like through the city’s eyes.

The result: the “Planet” series, which takes us to the bubbles of places like New York, São Paulo, Sydney, and Madrid.

The artist assembles photographs into meticulously circular panoramas. Reminding us that Photoshop techniques have origins in the physical world, each series is painstakingly incised and trimmed by hand. The three-dimensional works challenge perceptions of our everyday "orbits" through their creative use of representation.
