Aurel Haxhillari's insight:

This narrows it down even better. How much can you possibly say to people in under 140 characters? (Twitter). If you cannot say everything you want in those chracters than why not pick up the phone and call? Why not meet the person? But instead we use this "social media" to interact!

Aurel Haxhillari's insight:

The numbers don't lie! It's becoming more and more obvious that social media actually leads to more problems than we look forward to. We create more problems online because we believe it won't hurt if it's typed out. But the numbers in this article are simple and the main number (78% felt a higher hostility) is already mind-blowing.

Is Facebook Making Us Antisocial?

Is Facebook Making Us Antisocial? | How social media has made us anti-social | Scoop.it
Facebook’s decision to allow “likes” but not “dislikes” has stifled the most potent tool in an influence arsenal for shaping manners.
Aurel Haxhillari's insight:

The things we say on "social media sites" can also cause us real life problems and drama. While we may think that something as simple as making a joke about a national headline is not harmful, it can cause more problems than we imagined. Things such as the scandal at Penn State led to a lot of people posting about the "showers with boys in high school locker rooms" and that led to a media outrcy because now it led to more people thinking that this sort of thing was happening at every school. This also led to tensions between friends and family who had different views on the scandal itself.

Is Facebook, the official “Social Network”, making us “anti-social”?

Is Facebook, the official “Social Network”, making us “anti-social”? | How social media has made us anti-social | Scoop.it
Ok, I’ll admit it. I’m a big Facebook fan. Do I log in every day? Yes. Do I attempt to post funny things hoping you’ll find me to be comedic? Yes. Do I use it to keep in touch with family and friends who live out of the state or country?
Aurel Haxhillari's insight:

This one made me laugh because everybody has done it before. They use social media for other methods. Everybody has used FaceBook to creep on and ex or send a message to a person they are interested in. This is stuff that some people cannot do in person but they do online. The reason why this is bad though is because of the fact that it makes us lazy. We are more likely to be on FaceBook during a dinner conversation or sending a message than paying attention to the other person.

Is Social Networking Making Us Antisocial?

Is Social Networking Making Us Antisocial? | How social media has made us anti-social | Scoop.it
Today the media is not what it used to be. Communication in the past was simple and meaningful. Before the internet there were limited sources of information we had to rely on. The culture was then...
Aurel Haxhillari's insight:

A great article that I found intriguing due to the quote; "multitasking in the digital form through social media can leave today’s children socially incompetent." I couldn't agree with this any more! While we think that this is just a new thing and of the new age of technology, it's ruining the way we interact with people and making us more shy in reality. We are more outgoing online than we are in person. We become stiff when we meet a person that we talked to online because we are not developing the skills required to properly interact without the technology.

Aurel Haxhillari's insight:

Social media has absolutely ruined the way we interact in our everyday lives. We look forward more to going on the internet rather than seeing friends or family. We will go to class or school in general and the first things we do are login to social media sites to check our "friends" statuses or our "friends" tweets when in reality we have friends in front of us and are unable to hold a conversation.
