The New Mexico Tourism Department has awarded $546,888 in cooperative grants to 50 statewide local, nonprofit and tribal entities for advertising and marketing efforts. “This program allows destinations of all sizes to stretch their tourism dollars,” Tourism Secretary Monique Jacobson said in a news release. “Destinations, historical sites and festivals are seeing the value in marketing together. We have so many treasures throughout the entire state and we want to assist them in making a name for themselves.”

At the Tourism Association of New Mexico (TANM) Governor’s Conference on Tourism today, the City of Roswell was recognized for excellence in the NM tourism industry at the TANM Tourism Industry Recognition Awards (TIARA). These awards help bring greater awareness to the importance of the tourism industry to New Mexico’s economy, and are given to highlight excellence and creative accomplishment in travel marketing and promotion. Roswell was recognized with a TIARA award for NEW EVENT OF THE YEAR for the 2011 Roswell International Sci-Fi Film Festival: Aliens in Cinema.

Starwood Hotels & Resorts has revealed it dedicates 75% of its total marketing budget on digital media. Speaking to Hotelier Middle East, Starwood Hotels & Resorts vice president marketing Europe, Africa & Middle East (EAME), Steven Taylor, said the company was embracing the evolution of the online world “and our branded online channels have seen fantastic growth over the last few years”. “Social media has been placed at the very core of our organisation to ensure that we are delivering value to our guests throughout their stay,” he continued.
