Embarquez pour le voyage assisté - Etourisme.info | Hotel and accommodation trends | Scoop.it
How Hospitality Can Heal Its Self-Inflicted Wound and Decrease OTA Dependency | Hotel and accommodation trends | Scoop.it
The year of 2016 will be the first in which OTA revenues in the U.S. will surpass brand.com revenues in hospitality. The OTA vs. brand.com (direct online channel) ratio will dip to 51:49, compared to 46:54 back in 2012 (PhoCusWright). Hospitality is the ONLY travel sector in which the OTAs are gaining share at the expense of brand.com; direct online revenues from the airline, car rental and cruise sectors are all increasing at the expense of the OTAs in 2016.

Why the Vacation Rental Industry Is Blowing Up Right Now

Why the Vacation Rental Industry Is Blowing Up Right Now | Hotel and accommodation trends | Scoop.it
In the pre-Internet era, vacation rentals were a largely mom-and-pop industry. Businesses advertised via classifieds or real estate agents; some mailed catalogs to mailing lists acquired from local visitors bureaus. Change came by the decade: A Colorado couple looking for a better way to rent their ski condo launched booking site VRBO in 1996. HomeAway acquired the business in 2006, becoming the dominant listings hub. Then last year, Expedia swallowed up HomeAway, paying $3.9 billion.

Why independent hoteliers should take note of hotel chains' direct bookings drive

Over the past few months, we have started to see a shift in sentiment and resources from the major hotel chains to encourage their clients to book directly. Loyalty programs that were once afterthoughts, and in some cases did not have any meaningful benefits to its members, are starting to be restructured to encourage and help guests who chose to book from the brand website. Over the past year, we have begun seeing compelling new ads from the chains actively seeking this, when once they were slightly cautious of going up against the all powerful Priceline and Expedia OTAs.
