Well, yes, we all know it is (especially now with this latest research), but sometimes the speed in which mobile travel has evolved is lost in the midst of constant app launches and new devices.

Destinations Woo Chinese Tourists--But Then It Gets Complicated

Destinations Woo Chinese Tourists--But Then It Gets Complicated | Hospitality & Tourism Trends | Scoop.it
The grievances are familiar — they gawk, they shove, they eschew local cuisine, and last year, 83 million mainland Chinese spent $102 billion abroad — overtaking Americans and Germans — making them the world’s biggest tourism spenders, according to the [UNWTO.] Their numbers have also placed them among the most resented tourists. Mainland Chinese tourists, often laden with cash and unfamiliar with foreign ways, are tumbling out of tour buses with apparently little appetite for hotel breakfast buffets and no concept of lining up…Countries are practically tripping over themselves to attract Chinese tourists…But the industry has experienced growing pains

The state of pet travel in United States

The state of pet travel in United States | Hospitality & Tourism Trends | Scoop.it
While hotels have been doing more marketing about their pet-friendliness, airlines have been regressing as a rule, and it shows in this survey.
Angela Jane Menoher's insight:

According a 2013 Public Policy Poll 6 out of 10 voting households had a pet and the American Pet Product Association reports that pet owners spent $52 billion dollars on their pets in 2012. Now if you compare that info to the travel stats scooped here clearly there is more travel dollars to capture from traveling pet owners. Pet friendly hotels are increasing in numbers. Marriott, Choice Hotels and Kimpton Hotels all offer pet friendly rooms. There are even hotel search and booking websites dedicated to traveling with furry friends.

Backpackers may finally be getting some respect – at least from an economic standpoint.Young people are traveling more, staying away for longer periods of time and spending more money, a new report indicates.

In 2012, $217 billion of the $1.088 trillion tourism “spend” worldwide came from young travelers, an increase that vastly outstripped that of other international travelers, according to a new study of youth and student travel released by Amsterdam-based World Youth Student and Educational Travel Confederation. Is Room Service Doomed? - SmarterTravel.com

Is Room Service Doomed? - SmarterTravel.com | Hospitality & Tourism Trends | Scoop.it
Angela Jane Menoher's insight:

What, no more breakfast in bed? Oh no!  Large hotels like the Hilton Midtown are ending room service forcing guests to locate grab and go items in the lobby. If full service hotels are dropping room service are they still "full service"? As a guest I hope not everyone jumps on this band wagon but as a hotel employee I see the obvious benefits of cutting it and saving on labor costs. Order up while you can!
