More Hospitality Chains Offer Social Media Rewards

One gets the impression that with some careful scheduling of their social media activity, a savvy social media user could stay in hotels for the rest of their lives and never have to pay -- provided they don’t mind turning over their social feeds to posts about hospitality providers. In recent weeks even more hospitality chains have jumped on the social media rewards bandwagon, offering customers free rooms and assorted perks in return for posting about their experience on social media.

Hotels are really getting on the whole social media craze.  Is it benefiting them? Definitely. Hotels are creating rewards programs for people who re-tweet posts from the Marriott, or who share tips on the Radisson Blu blog or posting photos using the hash tag #WaldorfExperiences. All these marketing techniques are helping bring more awareness to the hotel. In this day an age where every second person uses social media in some way these campaigns are a great way to bring in new customers and reward existing customers. Even a customer knows they are going to be rewards for “re-tweeting” or “checking in” on facebook to a hotel a lot more people will do it. These days I will never book a hotel unless I have checked out sights like TripAdvisor and Expedia as this is where people comment about their experiences at the hotel. Using these social media techniques the consumer feels involved with the process and therefore feeling satisfied with their experience.
