This is my gift for horse people all over the world.  I realize you are looking for proven techniques to train both your horse and your students.  Now you do!  The Horse and Rider Awareness videos are homemade and follow the training progress of several horses and riders over the years.  They are live films taken in the actual training session so you can see what happens to real horses and riders.  There is no editing and I am filming as I coaching.  These techniques have been tested on 1000's of horses and riders and have also been used in instructor training and certification programs.

New 2013 Rules Loom: FEI Initiates Global Safety Helmet Campaign for Equestrian Sports

New 2013 Rules Loom: FEI Initiates Global Safety Helmet Campaign for Equestrian Sports | Horse and Rider Awareness | Scoop.it
Où est mon casque? ¿dónde está mi casco حيث هو بلدي خوذة var är min hjälm? Wo ist mein Helm? 哪裡是我的頭盔

If you don't know where your helmet is, you'd better find it because, to twist Paul Revere's famous words: "The helmets are coming! The helmets are coming!"

International-level riders need to learn the new FEI rules for helmets, and the international governing body is a few weeks ahead of them. The organization has prepared web widgets and reminders that will inform competitors and trainers of how the new rules affect them.

An article on The Jurga Report today runs through the FEI's global awareness campaign in advance of the new rules taking effect next month.

Randi Thompson's insight:

In times past, we did not know the value of helmet safety while riding horses. Now, it is no secret.  Helmets are saving lives, in fact, have now saved mine several times.  My last unplanned dismount from a bucking, galloping 17.2 hand horse resulted in a major concussion.  I could not talk or write in ways that made sense for weeks.  I was lucky as I landed in soft sand...(after flipping over several times)

"Keeping Your Riding Position over Ground Poles"

Now we are checking Camille's position by asking her to take Polo over ground poles.  They are set at 10 feet.  This takes a lot of focus as Polo likes to rush his "lines" and is not sure how to stay relaxed and steady over ground poles.  As Camille practices, she gets better at telling Polo exactly what he needs to do. She has to get strong with her reins and needed to feel she could control him in this, or any situation.

Being accepted as a leader, especially if you are new to a leadership role or have been asked to lead a new group of people who do not know of you or your success in previous leadership roles, can be  difficult if you make some very common mistakes in how you approach the leadership role.

The real measure of success in any leadership role, is to have those you lead follow your direction without hesitation, and be willing to go that extra mile when you ask it of them.

This excellent article, suggests that the common mistakes made by leaders that lead to them not being accepted by team members can be avoided, and it outlines five of the most common mistakes and then advises how to avoid them.

How to Keep a Riders Inside Seatbone Over Their Inside Leg On Curves #3 Canter"

A horse is balanced when we have the feeling that it is "balanced" when we can keep it on our outside rein and leg, expecially on curve where we can really tell. What many do not realize, is that to do this, the rider needs to be anchored down their inside leg with their inside seatbone over it. Easier said than done! Of course, once a rider feels it, they know why it is important. Watch as I show Camille Beatty what she can do to isolate that feeling. Next, I ask Camille to her weight on her inside seat bone and down into the inside leg at the canter. This is the hardest gait for most people to keep connected on. Especially going to their weaker side.

Mud fever rampant in Britain as deluge continues - Horse & Hound

Mud fever rampant in Britain as deluge continues - Horse & Hound | Horse and Rider Awareness | Scoop.it

"With sodden conditions across most of the country (of Great Britain), vets (there) are reporting a high incidence of mud fever this winter.

“There have certainly been more cases than normal,” British Equine Veterinary Association (BEVA) president Keith Chandler told H&H. “Especially in the south-west and Gloucestershire.”

@Hoofcarejournal writes: Hang on a minute: mud fever (scratches, dew poisoning, etc.) is usually a problem from mid-winter on. The calendar is turned inside out this year.

I'm sure horse owners know that things can only go from bad to worse unless things dry out and their horses' infections can be treated effectively.

What's your best remedy for scratches? There are lots of new products on the market; they'll be tested under this latest outbreak.
