This is my gift for horse people all over the world.  I realize you are looking for proven techniques to train both your horse and your students.  Now you do!  The Horse and Rider Awareness videos are homemade and follow the training progress of several horses and riders over the years.  They are live films taken in the actual training session so you can see what happens to real horses and riders.  There is no editing and I am filming as I coaching.  These techniques have been tested on 1000's of horses and riders and have also been used in instructor training and certification programs.

Are you riding from your seat and legs? Adding the neck strap. Trot Speed and Change of direction #2

We have now moved up into the trot. In this video, I ask Lisa to start changing directions at the trot. Again, she is riding with only the neck strap. This forces her to use her seat and legs to control both the speed and the direction of Sonyador.

Randi Thompson's insight:

Everyone talks about riding a horse from their seat and legs.  What does it really mean?  How can the rider know?  Try this exercise and you will know.

"How to Ride or Teach Perfect circles with a lunge line"

This is one of the easiest ways I have found to teach riders how to feel when their horses are falling in and out of circles. It is also the easiest way for instructors/trainers to show their students how to feel when their horses are falling in and out of circles.

Randi Thompson's insight:

Would you like to have perfect circles for dressage, the hunter ring, reining or so much more?  Check out this video!

Are you riding from your seat and legs? Let's see. Adding the neck rein. Walk, halts #1

How can a rider have a better feeling of how to ride from their seat and legs? Take away their reins!

Randi Thompson's insight:

Sometimes, it is not easy if we are really leaning on the reins more than we think....  that is when it is time to try something different.  Watch what happens when I take Lisa's reins away and have her ride with a neck strap.

Everyone talks about riding a horse from their seat and legs, but what does it really mean? Trot #1

In this session we move up into the trot so that Trudy can now feel if Ani is "under her seat" while she is trotting.  That is when Trudy is riding her from her seat and legs. To do this I ask Trudy to bring Ani's shoulders in when ever she feels her leaning on the reins or disconnecting.  Next, we add the feeling of the leg yield to the circles so that Trudy has more control of Ani's hind legs. As a result, Ani's movement changes.   What did you see?

Randi Thompson's insight:

How can you know when you are riding your horse from your seat and legs?  Is there really an easier way to finally feel what it means?

Daniel Watson's curator insight, November 18, 2013 11:52 PM

Small business owners often inhabit a very closed world, spending so much time focused on their business, that they fail to heed new ideas that other business owners have successfully embraced.

Finding the necessary time to interact with other business owners or to research the secrets to other's small business success stories, is the usual barrier that causes the "head in the sand" approach to uncovering ideas, but fortunately others have made the task of keeping up with new ideas much easier.

This excellent article, suggests that most successful business owners have a "secret weapon" that they use to set themselves apart from their competition, and it explores the "secret weapon" deployed by 17 individual owners of successful busineses.

GreatBusinessContent's curator insight, November 19, 2013 3:34 PM

The article is like a slideshare, at first I thought..."hey, where'd my article go"?

Anyway this is mostly about different software or habits these different owners have used in thier business to make a big difference.  Are you using any of these yourself?

"Is your riding position really connected through your lower legs? What happens when you are riding transitions? Check out this technique that you can use to improve your lower leg position"

...You have heard me talk about this technique, dropping one stirrup for better balance.  Now you can see how it works. Our riders are Trudy Adams on Ani and Susan Faulkner Evans on Beau.In this session (this is an older video), we focused on the riders feeling if they were connected from their elbows, to their seatbones, all the way down their legs as they asked their horses to do transitions and move forward. To do this we do a simple, but very difficult exercise.  I ask them to drop their left stirrup.  This was back when both of these horses did not like moving forward at all.  They were still in the training level class.  This past month, Beau competed in the USDF Dressage Finals and earned a 70.20
