This is Susan Faulkner Evans on Beau. They are working on adding the feeling of the leg yield to the canter so that Susan has more control of his hind quarters. This is a very difficult exercise. They are moving up to 1st Level Dressage after a very successful year last year at Training level. Now, they need to be able to do a leg yield. Beau is not thrilled with the leg yield as he has to become aware of his hind legs in a new way. As a result, all of our movements will now have a feel of the leg yield to make sure that both Susan and Beau have a good feeling of what it is to be balanced laterally on the outside rein and leg. As this exercise continues you will see Beaus shoulders lift as he becomes more active with his hind legs at the walk.
As always, we do not edit what we show you. This way, you can see what happens to real horses and riders as they go through the training process.
