This is my gift for horse people all over the world.  I realize you are looking for proven techniques to train both your horse and your students.  Now you do!  The Horse and Rider Awareness videos are homemade and follow the training progress of several horses and riders over the years.  They are live films taken in the actual training session so you can see what happens to real horses and riders.  There is no editing and I am filming as I coaching.  These techniques have been tested on 1000's of horses and riders and have also been used in instructor training and certification programs.

Randi Thompson's insight:
"The canter. Is your horse responding to your half halts? Watch what happens as Susan asks Beau to stay connected even more at the canter" In this session Susan practices the half halt as taught by Robert Dover. To do this at the canter she feels when Beau starts to disconnect. When Susan feels that happen she breaths in deeply.. bringing that breath up her chest and back into her shoulder blades. Susan finishes that breath by bringing her seat forward, hugging her legs and closing her fingers on the reins. This entire process takes only 3 seconds. As those of you who know Beau expect... He is not thrilled moving up into the balance he needs for second level. This is a time of great change for Susan and Beau and I am so happy to have caught it on film as most riders never get to see what can happen as a horse is asked to balance and connect at a new level. Can you see how Beau begins to understand the half halts better?

Are your walk trot transitions smooth or rough? How does your riding position make a difference?

"When you ask your horse to change gaits, are the transitions rough or smooth? Would you like to see how you can use your riding position to make them smoother?"

Randi Thompson's insight:

In this session Trudy is focusing on what she is doing with her riding position and rein connection for the the walk/trot transitions. Like many riders, she has a tendency to disconnect from her riding position as she practices them. Now you can watch what I did with Trudy that made a difference in the quality and smoothness of the changes of gait with Ani.

What changes can you see in Trudy's riding position as she focuses more on it. What about Ani? Did her changes or gait improve?

The timing of the rider's aids at the walk. The steps. What you have always wanted to know...

"The timing of the riders aids at the walk. Is your horse hearing what you want them to do?" In this session I ask Trudy to really become aware of when Melod...
Randi Thompson's insight:

In this session I asked Trudy to really become aware of when Melody is listening to her aids. These are the steps that she is using. 1) First Trudy needs to be aware of when Melody's hind foot is off the ground. 2) Melody needs to soften her her jaw. 3) Melody will flex her neck (so the muscle falls to the outside) 4) Trudy aids her inside calve muscle to see if Melody is responding to her leg by shifting her weight to the outside. 5) Next, we add the outside rein and leg to soften Melody's poll. Sounds easy right? Watch to see how what we are doing makes a difference in how Melody is responding to Trudy's aids. What was must interesting is that by asking Trudy to say words as she is riding that it is easier for her to time when she is using her aids.

Can you see how the timing of the aids depends on where the horses hind foot is? (on the side you are using the aids on...) Try this on your horse (or student) and let us know how timing your aids makes a difference for what you are doing with your horse at the walk.

Is your horse in front of the aids walk/trot?  Now you can know by adding the Metronome as we retrain this Schoolmaster.

"Is your horse really in front of your aids? Now you can see how to use a metronome to know.... Watch what happens with Cheryl West-Master Instructor an
Randi Thompson's insight:
These are the topics that we discussed... (Yes, just in this video!) . How to know if your horse is in front of the aids by using a metronome. Rising vs sitting trot. Which one should you do? Is your horse "Stepping up from behind into connection" of your reins? Ask your horse to step up with the inside hind to an "alive" rein on inside. When you get the horse to step up to one side, praise them than switch sides. When does your horse drop the connection? Frame of rein and aids. What does that mean? From back to front Side to Side How do you know if your horse is on the outside rein and leg? Leg yield for checking outside reins and legs. Front of the saddle should be pointed in on curves Mini stretches. Can your horse do them on both sides? Keeping connection with rhythm of the gait. Metronome. Bring your inside seat bone towards the horses inside ear. Lunge line to feel what that size circle should feel like for the rider and horse. What did you discover from watching this Horse and Rider Awareness Video that will make a difference in how you are asking your horse to stay connected with you?

Randi Thompson's insight:

It happens to all of us, especially if we have a green or spooky horse.  For what ever reason,  that horse will look up and seem to forget we are there.  There are many ways to deal with a horse that gets distracted and you can see how we do it in this session by asking Ani to stay on the "outside" or "inside" rein and leg than switching to the other side.  We call this the Two Step exercise.

Randi Thompson's insight:

Are you coming?  I will be sharing many interesting topics. Some are geared for professionals in the horse world, others for anyone who owns a horse. All of the sessions are very interactive! I love it when people participate with me as we discuss what is happening and how they can use it with their horses or horse business!

Everyone wants to know more about how to ride or teach riding more effectively. They love the techniques that are from Horse and Rider Awareness. For those attending, make sure to get there early as the seats will fill up fast. Some of the topics we will cover together are: "How to create the perfect riding position", and "The secrets of the trainers, How to make your horse more comfortable to ride and easier to influence." These techniques have been taught to 1000’s of people in the horse world and will make a difference for any horse rider.

For those who are professionals or business owners in the horse world, there will be topics designed especially for you! I have been teaching professionals in the horse world for over 20 years now and know what you are looking for. Join with me as I share proven marketing topics and tips for those who want to know more about doing business with social media, including how to target local customers and so much more.

Another popular topic that everyone enjoys is "How to protect your horse business and clients through risk management" This session is very popular as so many people are unclear about what the Equine Liability Statues really mean for them. Hang onto your seats as this is a very lively topic where we will explore exactly what you need to know. As part of risk management you will want to also attend a crowd favorite, “What you need to do before taking a new rider or student for a ride on your horse" This is where I show people how to start a new rider on a horse. I will be using a real horse and rider to show you the process. Both professionals and the average horse owner love to see how to safely teach a rider how to stop, start and steer a horse.
