Equine Extravaganza Equestrian Festival Presents Randi Thompson of Horse and Rider Awareness. | Horse And Rider World | Scoop.it
Equine Extravaganza Equestrian Festival and Expo, Meadow Event Park, Doswell, VA, November 1-3, 2013. Enjoy three full days of “everything equine,” all at the birthplace of Secretariat!
Randi Thompson's insight:

Are you coming?  I will be sharing many interesting topics. Some are geared for professionals in the horse world, others for anyone who owns a horse. All of the sessions are very interactive! I love it when people participate with me as we discuss what is happening and how they can use it with their horses or horse business!

Everyone wants to know more about how to ride or teach riding more effectively. They love the techniques that are from Horse and Rider Awareness. For those attending, make sure to get there early as the seats will fill up fast. Some of the topics we will cover together are: "How to create the perfect riding position", and "The secrets of the trainers, How to make your horse more comfortable to ride and easier to influence." These techniques have been taught to 1000’s of people in the horse world and will make a difference for any horse rider.

For those who are professionals or business owners in the horse world, there will be topics designed especially for you! I have been teaching professionals in the horse world for over 20 years now and know what you are looking for. Join with me as I share proven marketing topics and tips for those who want to know more about doing business with social media, including how to target local customers and so much more.

Another popular topic that everyone enjoys is "How to protect your horse business and clients through risk management" This session is very popular as so many people are unclear about what the Equine Liability Statues really mean for them. Hang onto your seats as this is a very lively topic where we will explore exactly what you need to know. As part of risk management you will want to also attend a crowd favorite, “What you need to do before taking a new rider or student for a ride on your horse" This is where I show people how to start a new rider on a horse. I will be using a real horse and rider to show you the process. Both professionals and the average horse owner love to see how to safely teach a rider how to stop, start and steer a horse.

Half halts. The basics. New series with Susan and Darrien

Half halts are used to reconnect a horse in rider both mentally and physically. This is my third session we Susan Faulkner Evans and her new horse Darrien. We are focusing on making sure that the half halts are in place that are needed to keep Darrien connected mentally and in balance physically. When the half halt is correct Susan feels him pick up his back, especially at the walk. Next, she let's him flow on a lighter rein until he drops his back again. At first, she is half halting every 3 steps. As this session continues you will see that they both get more connected.

High-Tech Slo-Mo Reining Horse: What They Won't See in Oklahoma City This Weekend Via The Hoof Blog

High-Tech Slo-Mo Reining Horse: What They Won't See in Oklahoma City This Weekend Via The Hoof Blog | Horse And Rider World | Scoop.it

You have to love the sport of reining, but you also have to admit that it is all sort of a blur when those little horses pick up the tempo. During the spin and slide I always wish I could see their legs and hooves. Good luck with that!

There's no doubt these horses get a workout in the biomechanics department so when I saw that Russell Guire of Centaur Biomechanics had videotaped a reiner with his high-speed video camera, I knew it would be worth watching in slo-mo.

So let's toast the beginning of the big weekend for the sport of reining...

@HoofcareJournal writes: Don't just ride, slide! Watch this high-tech video of a reining horse executing a slide. This is the biggest weekend in the sport of reining: The best horses and riders in the world are competing at the NRHA Futurity in Oklahoma.

Russell Guire of Centaur Biomechanics captured a reining horse with his 300-frames-per-second high-speed video camera, for some high-quality slow motion. It's 25 times faster than the human eye.

Everyone talks about riding a horse from their seat and legs, but what does it really mean? Walk #1

Randi Thompson's insight:

In this session we are focusing on Trudy Adams feeling when Melody is lifting her back. This is when she is under Trudy's seat and in front of her legs/aids. It is easy for Trudy to feel as Melody will start leaning a little on the reins as she drops her back and goes out of balance. Now, when Trudy feels Melody start to lean or get quicker, I ask her to do a curve until she can feel Melody carrying her differently. As a result, Melody also gets softer on the reins and lifts her back.
