“My greatest wish is that by each of our actions, we create a "meme" of compassion that permeates our world and by doing so decreases suffering. That instead of reacting to negative behavior by, for example, spending billions on weapons to destroy lives, we are proactive and spend billions to improve lives..."

Shane Davis's curator insight, March 9, 2013 11:02 PM

I had a talk today with a psychologist and we discussed whether people suffer the same mental disorders in other countries as we do here in the U.S., and he said no  and went on to say they have different issues. This article is so in tune with what is wrong in our society and how it is making us all sick. There are some very savvy people working on utilizing the healing benefits of compassion to heal us from the ravages of our culture. It is very much an eye-opener if you  believe that your mind has the power to heal your body.

Sprouting Seeds of Compassion , by Marc Ian Barasch

Sprouting Seeds of Compassion , by Marc Ian Barasch | Hope | Scoop.it
"One day, visiting a friend's house in Malibu, I met an old man who had spent his life planting trees. As we talked through the afternoon, with the blue Pacific murmuring rumors of the world's vastness, and nearness, he explained how trees were the ecological equivalent of one-stop shopping: they could restore degraded soil, increase crops, feed livestock, provide building materials and firewood, restore biodiversity, sustain villages, and bring dormant springs back to life -- all the while sucking carbon dioxide out of the atmosphere. I had a minor epiphany: green compassion!" The founder of the Green World Campaign shares the story of how it all began, and offers up a set of insights from his journey.

New Lessons From Leonardo, by Fritjof Capra

New Lessons From Leonardo, by Fritjof Capra | Hope | Scoop.it
"As we recognize that our sciences and technologies have become increasingly narrow in their focus, unable to understand our multi-faceted problems from an interdisciplinary perspective, we urgently need a science and technology that honor and respect the unity of all life, recognize the fundamental interdependence of all natural phenomena, and reconnect us with the living Earth. What we need today is exactly the kind of synthesis Leonardo outlined 500 years ago." Read on to hear more from Fritjof Capra, as he shares his findings from ten years of research examining Leonardo da Vinci's personal notebooks.
