Claude Emond's curator insight, February 25, 2014 8:11 AM

Homo Agilis (Collective Intelligence, Agility and Sustainability : The Future is already here)
For and about all those people working to build together a sustainable world through collective intelligence and agility. Knowledge to share and collective behaviours to adopt to build and foster a sustainable future for all of us.

Tweet Nowadays no one needs to prove that cognitive diversity is an important factor that enables groups to act intelligently as a collective. James Surowiecki took the trouble of explaining it in his “Wisdom of Crowds”; so today I am not going to talk about how good diversity is for …
Claude Emond's insight:

«Collective Intelligence performs better when diversity is combined with what Tom Atlee calls Commonalities”:
1) A common goal,
2) A common language.
In short, the trick appears to be to have just enough diversity for your purpose. And “just enough” in this case is usually measured, according to Weinberger, “in scoops smaller than we had assumed”.»

The debate about whether these earth-shaking leaders are born or made will continue to rumble on, not least because they’re so apparently rare. Then again, it often only takes one person at the top to kickstart an organisation into action.

Ian Berry's curator insight, May 20, 8:42 PM

Transformation is an outcome of a series of transitions. We don't need transformational leaders. We need leaders willing and able to co-create the transitions and who appreciate and help people to be accountable as the transitions are executed.

Crowdsourcing Leadership

Crowdsourcing Leadership | Homo Agilis (Collective Intelligence, Agility and Sustainability : The Future is already here) | Scoop.it
Management gurus tell us what leadership is…and isn't. Years of research have taken us from employee-driven quality control, to empowerment, to "followership." By "turning the pyramid upside down," many of these approaches encourage employees to do what they think is best to serve customers, improve processes and innovate. Beyond these, however, in the age of closer and closer connectedness we are seeing a new organizational phenomenon. We call it crowdsourcing leadership.
Much like composer Eric Whitacre, who uses crowdsourcing to splice together individual singers' voices to create masterful choral works (albeit with digital technology), business leaders are increasingly asking employees to lend their voices—and talents—to the chorus of direction and leadership.

Like many of the ideas of the 1950s, such as the Edsel, smoking in hospitals, and Smell-O-Vision, it turns out they weren't so great after all. Open offices, it turns out, are more likely to hurt your productivity, rather than help it.

The Future is already here) | Scoop.it

Initially, yes—I got many glassy-eyed stares! But I’m glad to say the landscape has changed. Back in 2007, when I wrote “Igniting Inspiration” I was gripped with this vision, clear as day. Having been steeped in applied psychology research for decades, and hav
