When School Is Home, And Home Is School
OPB News
The state of Oregon has set an ambitious goal to graduate 100 percent of high school students by the year 2025.
majufranklin's insight:

This story is about a boy named Ethan that was bullied when he was younger just because of his habits such as praying before food and his love to GOD, so his mom decided to home-school him. Homeschooling for him has turned out really good to him because he learns educationally, religiously and he could have time with her mom.

This link talks about some pros and some cons of homeschooling. One cons of them is that keeping children out of a traditional school environment greatly inhibits their access to other children and friends and social life. And a pros is that teachers often handling classes of 40 or more children at a time.

Ann and Pablo and Andrea's curator insight, May 22, 2014 9:47 PM

This article is about the good and bad things that homeschooling provides. It provides the comparrison from homeschooling and regular schools. A main con about homeschooling is the lack of social development. Although homeschooled kids get the opportunity to interact with the community they don't get the chance to learn how to behave while being with other kids. A pro is that homeschooled kids learn at their pace and are more independent.

Moms on the Go: Homeschooling vs. Public school - YouTube

Local moms weigh in on their decisions to homeschool or send their kids to public school.
majufranklin's insight:

This video is about a women interviewing three different types of moms. There is Lisa Allie Darr who is planning to homeschool her kids. She wants her kids to have the best education about morality. There is Molly Pearson who is a mom that works full time so homeschooling her kids would definitely not be an option for her. There is  Lisa Harst who is just scared about homeschooling her kids. She just thinks she is not capable of teaching, and she prefers and experienced person to teach their kids. The reporter was just guided by some articles that were pros and cons about homeschooling. There was a question that most moms make which was that how do colleges deal with homeschooling, and Allie said that every kid that is being home-schooled could take any tests required. Lisa just said that now a days colleges are being a little bit more flexible with homeschooling kids. They also discussed about another article which said that home-schooled kids do not have a good social life. Molly's response to that was that her kids went to school and they had a lot of friends, she said that it would depend on how their parents are, she vas sociable. Allie said she totally disagreed with it because her kids have many friends and they could have friends in the neighborhood. So basically this video just gives you information about homeschool from different points of view, there is the one that disagrees, the one that agrees, an the one who would like the idea but is really scared of doing it. Are you considering homeschooling? Learn about the advantages and disadvantages before you make your decision.
majufranklin's insight:

This article tells you about the pros and cons about homeschooling your kid. This guy gathered experienced information and other peoples information. One of the pros that he gave us were that kids have educational freedom, physical freedom, emotional freedom, religious freedom, and that they get closer to their family. Also, that there is more support and stability during hard times, that kids rest very well in an appropriate amount of time, and finally, that there is no busy work, since parents are more flexible with giving homework to their kids.  On the other hand some of the cons were that the parents free time gets really short, or sometimes they have no free time. Parents also have trouble with the financial restraints, the fact that the sports are limited, and that you are with your child almost all day long, and sometimes it gets kind of tiring.

13 year old Logan quits school and starts home schooling education system - TED - YouTube

Logan Laplante is a 13 year-old boy who was taken out of the education system to be home schooled instead. Not only was he home schooled, but Logan had the a...
majufranklin's insight:

This video is about a 13 year old boy that believes that homeschooling is the best thing that kids should have. He got inspired by a man that was in a TED talk before and said that schools were the ones who took out creativity. He started talking about that all the kids wanted to be happy when they grew up. I learned from him that there are some students that have no fun in school. “ I really didn't liked writing much, because when I was in school the just put me to write stuff about rainbows and stuff which I don't like... ” He said as an example. Now he is home-schooled and he can do lots of fun stuff. For example doing a fun play about an important character in history. He is learning in a very fun way that makes you happy creative an even smarter. Logan basically said that being home-schooled not only gets you the privilege of being smart when you grow up, but it gives you the privilege of being happy when you grow up. By: Sofia Romero P3
