Howard Wood's curator insight, February 2, 2013 5:27 AM

Excellent idea which I support.   My experience of politicians is that they are short termists. They may appreciate nature, but they fail to understand it needs long term planning and management. Fisheries are the perfect example. Most Scottish politicians fail to see the natural & economic disaster of Scotland’s inshore waters. They are oblivious to it . (It’s called shifting baselines)Happy to continue to encourage the economics of bottom trawling important Juvenile fish nursery areas. So we end up with only a couple of invertebrate’s , prawns and scallops that our west coast fishermen can make a living from.  Nature & economics go hand in hand, you need politicians with real vision. Question is, do we have enough of them to change our ways?
