Lindsay Berk's curator insight, November 13, 2014 9:30 AM

This article discusses how great of a social media site Pinterest is. Pinterest is a site where it allows people to post different ideas and then users can benefit and select which idea they love the most and then apply it to themselves. For example, if someone was looking for ways to decorate a house warming present for a friend, they could simply type in the search bar "house warming present ideas" and numerous pictures of housewarming presents would then appear. Pinterest is a very different and interesting site that highlights all the amazing creative people we have in this world. Rebecca Tucker is the co-owner of Pinterest and has a lot to say about this site. She states that there are around "30 billion pins a day" which essentially means people are "pinning" ideas which connects the creative image to their account and allows viewers to see the pins that they love the most. Rebecca thinks that some of these pins can be overwhelming and she is suggesting an easier way to make peoples pins more organized. Some of the tips that are shown in this article in order to have a more easily accessible Pinterest account would be: 1) Pin it right away, don't say "I'll come back to it later" because then you could forget about it. 2) Search Smart, this means that when you are searching for specific topics you should be very detailed within your search to make sure you find exactly what you are looking for. 3) Let Pinterest feed you ideas, this means that even Pinterest can send you ideas that they think you might be interested in, this helps you out in your search and makes it a little easier. The last tip that I think is important is Creating Sub Categories, which is narrowing your search down even further to help you focus on your idea and designs more efficiently. These tips mentioned in this article can help a Pinterest user out by organizing their profile in a way that makes it easier for them and their users to view.

Caitlin Mazurkevich's curator insight, November 17, 2014 4:31 PM

With all the social media channels out there, how is a brand able to cut through the clutter? If you’re a small business, social media might seem like too much of a hassle or too time consuming to deal with. It will be worth the effort, trust me. All it takes are a few steps for a business to be successful in the social media universe.

The first and most important is to know your consumers. Know what they pay attention to most, what draws them in. Knowing this helps your content be more effective. You should also pick a few social media sites to be on, not all of them. This helps to focus on what is important and create a community in these few areas, rather than spread thin over dozens of other sites. “Understand that conversation is key”, monitoring the activity on posts and engaging with consumers keeps your business in the loop and creates a relationship with the clients. Lastly, know when to post a call to action. This shouldn’t be overwhelming to the consumer but you also need to lead them to the products or services that they want.
