We are so advertised to around diet and nutrition in our capitalist world that we sometimes fixate on eating properly often in isolation over spending time with friends, family and community.

Scientists have shown how #meditation makes the brain bigger and better. They mapped the brain function of Tibetan lamas trained in concentration and mental control and found higher levels of gamma brain waves and thicker brain cortexes (the areas associated with higher brain function) in meditators.

He makes good points about eating a variety of foods, real foods, and cutting back on fake processed foods. His overall point is that the standard American diet with its low fat focus is a bad idea and responsible for much of America's obesity. What he omitted is why: "fat" has been replaced with sugar and more salt to enhance taste and unfortunately our waist lines.

Through my own personal growth and search to find balance, a day doesn't go by that I'm told to meditate.  There are so many ways to do meditation and even more benefits. My latest practice is a walking meditation where I repeat a mantra while walking through nature.  I love it and the affects it has on my overall well being are amazing.

Some ideas from this Huff Post blogger to lessen anxiety and live life more fully:

 

(1) Change Your Perspective.  Is the situation worth your worry?

(2) Put Your Worries on Paper.  Slow down racing thoughts.

(3) Work Hard.  Completing tasks helps you feel more in control.

(4) Say No.  Start creating boundaries and protect your time.

(5) Set Priorities.  Understand better your realistic expectations.

(6) Postpone Worry.  Why worry now when you can worry tomorrow?

(7) Say "STOP".  And say it out loud!

(8) Imagine the Worst.  This helps you to find a realistic scenario.

(9) Rehearse Success.  Feel what it feels like to reach your goals.

(10) Focus on the External World.  Get out of your head.
