3 Reasons Baby Boomers Are Getting Fired

3 Reasons Baby Boomers Are Getting Fired | Holistic Nutrition Health and Wellness | Scoop.it

Over 50? You're more likely to have long-term unemployment woes.

The rate of long-term unemployment is highest over the age of 50. As companies embrace the value proposition of hiring Millennial workers (in spite of their anger toward their shortcomings), Baby Boomers who can't deliver the same value will be let go. Yes, there are laws against age discrimination, but when companies follow proper protocol and can prove you aren't being singled out solely based on age, they can (and will) let you go.

Via The Learning Factor
Ellen Naylor's insight:

I think reason 3, #stress, is often the trigger that causes Boomers to come off as arrogant and "know-it-alls in the workplace. I feel a lot more stress in my life than in my younger days, and I am not unusual. We often have more responsibilities as we get older, which contribute to stress, unless we figure out ways to alter our attitude and deal with these issues. I also have more to be thankful for as I age than I did when I was younger. That's something Boomers can share at work and at home to brighten things up.

This 5 Minute Exercise You Can Do With Just Your Hands Will Boost Energy & Balance Emotions

This 5 Minute Exercise You Can Do With Just Your Hands Will Boost Energy & Balance Emotions | Holistic Nutrition Health and Wellness | Scoop.it
Jin Shin Jyutsu is a an ancient Japanese form of touch therapy that you can perform on yourself  to help balance your energy and emotions through stimulating the meridians in our hands. The technique is simple, and can be done anywhere: Each finger is connected to different organs and emotions/attitudes.  Check the chart and decide whether to focus on one area of trouble or to do a whole body balance Hold the finger correlating to the emotion you want to calm, or the organ you want to heal for 3-5 minutes while breathing deeply. If you want a total body harmonization you can go through all of the fingers on each hand. In a study at Markey Cancer Center patients of all stages and types were able to feel positive benefits, including reduced stress and nausea after each of their sessions. Also many patients that were having trouble getting rest reported they had a much easier time falling asleep while holding their thumb. I'm always surprised when people ask me about how to manage their time.

"This time management of which you speak, what is that?" I joke.

Well, sort of. It's not really a joke, because I don't really manage my time. I manage my stress. Time management is something they teach you in bookkeeping class in college. Life teaches you to manage stress loads like you are putting weights on a scale. Overload yourself, and you won't have enough time to finish anything. Manage your stress and you will suddenly have enough time to get it all done. Here's how:

Graham Player Ph.D.'s curator insight, February 19, 2015 8:49 AM

The sugar content contained in fresh fruits and vegetables, and their juices, is very different from refined sugars and other concentrated sweeteners such as corn syrup.

The natural fresh foods contain a high percentage of water as well as oxygen, enzymes, vitamins and minerals, in addition to their sugars. This combination of nutrients provides the body much of what it needs to effectively utilize and break down that fresh food item and its natural sugars. In contrast processed and packaged foods containing refined sugars, sweeteners and chemicals do not come with the same compliment of necessary nutrients to utilize and break down the contents of that food item.

Nicole Dwyer Tesar's curator insight, June 14, 2015 10:24 AM

Important to remember though that not all "sugars" are created equal. Our bodies metabolize natural sugars very differently than sugars from processed products.
