Does Perio Protect Treat Bloody and Swollen Gums?

Does Perio Protect Treat Bloody and Swollen Gums? | Holistic Dentistry | Scoop.it
Perhaps your dentist has recommended Perio Protect as a treatment for swollen or bloody gums. Or, perhaps you found Perio Protect reviews after researching different treatments for agitated gums online. Either way, the question remains: Will Perio Protect treat your gum condition? The answer is ‘yes’ in most cases, however there are specifics to consider. First, will Perio Protect be preceded with a debridement procedure? If so, the chances of it working are much higher. Second, how long will Perio Protect be used? Patients are advised to defer to the recommendation of their dentists on treatment. EPA Acknowledges Harmful Side Effects of Silver Filling Disposal

EPA Acknowledges Harmful Side Effects of Silver Filling Disposal | Holistic Dentistry | Scoop.it
For years, many dentists proactively warned patients about the harmful side effects of dental amalgam (silver fillings). Although dental amalgam has not been labeled “toxic” by the FDA, holistic dentists were convinced the material was potential dangerous, containing upwards of 50% liquid mercury per mixture. In the early 1990s, the World Health Organization issued a report in which statistics evidenced the harm that dental amalgam causes the environment. This year, the EPA may petition for stricter guidelines in dental amalgam disposal, further demonstrating a concern for the toxic material. If submitted, the new EPA guidelines would require all dentists to use amalgam separators to ensure chunks of amalgam do not accidentally enter the public water systems. 3D Dental Imaging Arrives at Assure a Smile, Miami

3D Dental Imaging Arrives at Assure a Smile, Miami | Holistic Dentistry | Scoop.it
What is 3D dental imaging? The technology takes a new approach at dental x-rays, capturing images that can be in either panoramic mode or three dimensions. With this technology, both dentists and patients score major victories. For dentists, the new technology highlights potential problem areas long before they develop into more serious oral health conditions. They can catch cavities before the tooth needs a root canal, for example. And while that is certainly a benefit for patients, having one’s teeth and gums imaged by new 3D software provides the added benefit of better education. Panoramic and/or 3D images show the teeth and gums like never before, giving patients a new found appreciation for the soft tissues of the oral anatomy. 7 Tips to Avoid Fluoride in the Foods You Eat

If you use fluoride toothpaste and mouth rinse, there’s a good chance you suffer from what holistic dentists call “fluoride overload.” One need only read the warning on the toothpaste label to see firsthand that fluoride consumption can be deadly. Each year, hundreds of infants and children are taken to the emergency room for fluoride poisoning. In most cases, it is caused by accidentally swallowing toothpaste or mouth rinse. Fluoride in public water is limited to a level deemed “safe” by the US government, however, that is not the only source to be worried about. Popular foods and drinks are often rich in fluoride, exposing unsuspecting Americans to more and more fluoride each year. Learn to limit fluoride exposure by shopping for more natural food items, and take a step towards a healthier fluoride-free life with this article by Assure A Smile.

Are silver dental fillings poisonous?

Are silver dental fillings poisonous? | Holistic Dentistry | Scoop.it
In short, yes. Dental fillings have the potential to be poisonous when dental amalgam is used as the restorative material. Dental amalgam is the silver metallic mixture that many dentists use, mostly because it is affordable. This mixture is made with nearly 1 half part liquid mercury, however the American Dental Association has long held the mercury is “locked in” and cannot escape. New studies show that mercury vapor may escape from dental amalgam under certain conditions, however, meaning that patients may inhale the deadly and odorless vapor all day, every day. Learn more about this serious public health concern on the Miami Dentist Blog.

Mercury in Your Mouth [Free Infographic]

Mercury in Your Mouth [Free Infographic] | Holistic Dentistry | Scoop.it
Three of the most common sources of mercury exposure include industrial mining, fish/shellfish consumption, and dental fillings. Dental fillings are perhaps the most threatening of these sources as they are permanently added to teeth and may steadily release levels of toxic mercury vapor into the bloodstream over time. Holistic dental professionals are warning patients about silver fillings, advising them to consider safer bio-compatible alternatives like white composites. Still, individuals who have silver fillings are at risk for long term mercury exposure and the many damaging side effects that come with it.
