Are you looking for resources that provide "copyright friendly" images, audio and video for your learners? This post, by Richard Byrne, provides six resources. Each one provides access to materials that are in the public domain.

* The Moving Image Archive. This is part of the Internet Archive and includes over 1.7 million clips.

* The Public Domain Review is a project of the Open Knowledge Foundation and provides access to images, books, films, audio recording and essays.

* The Free Music Archive (FMA) provides access to free music. This collection is curated and provides a range of genres.

* Sound Gator provides free sound effects. Do you need the sound of a horn honking, or whipped cream coming out of a can?  This is a great place to go.

* Pixabay and the Morgue File are both great places to search for images. The Morgue File is a collection of photos, and Pixabay provides high-resolution images in the public domain.

this is on point. in today's generation school has become a chore, not because it is boring or uninteresting (and it is) but because that is how we were raised to think. school is supposed to "suck" and we are supposed to hate it with a fiery passion. but if we could integrate the [arts kids love about school into the subjects we don't  believe that kids could learn to be excited about Knowledge and the expanse if possibility it holds.

Curriculum comes from currere which has to do with repeatedly running the course and autobiography implying complex conversations. These happen in School and outside.

Much of this applies to online learning, but aesthetics matter in a brick-and-mortar environment, too. Think about the classroom to which you respond, "Oh! This is nice!" as opposed to the classroom that seems to be losing its battle with clutter. Imagine the impact a confused environment has on a student. Great to have stuff on the wall, but after a while it can become just background and no longer have any meaning. Teachers already work hard to create a valuable and purposeful learning space, so asking them to have a plan for managing the resources and other stuff in the classroom might seem like too much. Except the really good ones are already doing it.

How can teachers best integrate technology into their lesson plans? This post looks at 10 questions we should consider asking ourselves, and provides suggestions of tools to consider using that will help us seamlessly integrate technology. Below are the first four questions.

1. How am I activating into my students' prior knowledge?

2. How am I presenting information to students in an engaging way?

3. How am I collecting, disseminating, and annotating student work?

4. What opportunities and resources am I giving my students for practice?

Integrating technology should become a component of our lesson design. As you review the additional questions you will find that not all apply to every lesson you teach. Think about your objectives and then select the question(s) most applicable.

As you look at the suggested tools in the post make sure that you try using the ones you choose. There is nothing more frustrating than to use a tool as a teacher, and you know it works...but when the student logs in the tool is blocked due to permissions. My lesson learned...I must test each and every tool, so that I know how to use it and to make sure students also have access.

Care about helping your students learn, 2. understand but do not excuse, 3. be clear about learning goals, 4. surface knowledge + deep understanding, 5. release responsibility, 6. give good feedback, 7. have students learn from each other, 8 manage behavior, 9. evaluate your impact, 10. always be learning ways to increase your impact. makes a good bookmark reminder. Self-assessment regularly would likely improve teaching more than many hours of random PD.

This is interesting because it shows how far the concept of 'Curation' has come in the last 10 years. I don't remember much about it but I remember that in the early days of Blogger, perhaps even before Google bought it, they had a tool or bookmarklet or some little button that had certain curation abilities. My first blog was on Blogger and I remember using that tool.

Later, I maintained a Posterous blog for a couple of years...maybe more. I liked Posterous a lot and was very sad when they sold it (Posterous) to Yahoo and then about a year later those jerks at Yahoo closed it down. I thought Posterous was a very nice blog with just the right amount of features to get the job done without getting too technical.

Terry Heick makes it clear that this is a sponsored post and recommends 13 lessons and 13 tools that we may want to share with learners (and teachers) to help them gain a better understanding as to why research and credibility are important digital concepts. Below are several of the "lessons" that we need to understand.

* Not all sources are created equal.

* You can combine digital search with academic content.

* Question everything - even if you like the source.

* Want credibility? Cite your sources.

In addition to the 13 lessons there are also thirteen tools that are suggested, such as:

* EasyBib

* Summon (an alternative to Google Scholar)

* Zotero - a website that is free and allows you to "collect, organize, cite and share your research choices."

There is much more information in this post so take the time to click through...and think how nice it would be if our learners understood and embraced the 13 lessons.
