The future of education

Videogames, digital pens, holograms and tactile learning platforms could all become the norm as education looks set to change dramatically over the next 30 years. With technology dominating in and outside the classroom, interconnectivity is likely to play a key role in helping students adapt to the changing world around them

Here's What Wi-Fi Would Look Like If We Could See It

Here's What Wi-Fi Would Look Like If We Could See It | hobbitlibrarianscoops | Scoop.it

Wi-fi. It's all around us, quietly and invisibly powering our access to the world's information. But few of us have a sense of what wi-fi actually is, let alone what it would look like if we could see it. Artist Nickolay Lamm decided to shed some light on the subject. He created visualizations that imagine the size, shape, and color of wi-fi signals were they visible to the human eye.

"I feel that by showing what wi-fi would look like if we could see it, we'd appreciate the technology that we use everyday," Lamm told me in an email. "A lot of us use technology without appreciating the complexity behind making it work."

To estimate what this would look like, Lamm worked with M. Browning Vogel, Ph.D., an astrobiologist and former employee at NASA Ames. Dr. Vogel described the science behind wireless technology, and Lamm used the information to create the visualizations.

Estamos en una época de aceleración y vale la pena repensar estas nuevas formas de comprender estos términos

PIRatE Lab's curator insight, August 10, 2014 6:29 PM

An interesting compilation of terms.  Perhaps most interesting to me is the utter "out of touch" aspect of some of these terms.  Most of very human/wealthy human-centric and are likely to be niche terms at best.  Only the "anthropocene" and "mule" really seem to stretch beyond our wealthy, western lifestyles.  Nevertheless a good read to stimulate your thinking about what the future may bring.

Have you seen an RSA Animate video? Are you interested in learning how to make one or better yet, have your students make one? This post provides an in-depth look at how to go about have your students create an animated video that provides them with the opportunity to  practice 21st century skills (quoted from post below):

* collaborate with one another

* synthesize ideas

* create content

* communicate ideas clearly

* use technology

This activity is designed to have your students create content, providing you with materials to use in future classes as well as helping your current students understand the materiial.

The author, Jordan Collier, provides a detailed five-day plan. Day 1 would have you dividing students into groups of three, assign them a section of a chapter in a textbook, and determine the key facts that need to be taught. To read about how to assist them with this and the tasks for Day 2 - 5 click through to the post.

Where In The World Do The Most Young People Use Technology? - Edudemic | hobbitlibrarianscoops | Scoop.it
At first, I figured that the results of this study would be pretty obvious. First world countries with large populations and higher birth rates would be at the top of the list.

What do you think? Do you believe the results are obvious? If so, you may be surprised. Learn about the "digital natives" in the following areas:

* Who they are

* The top ten countries by percentage

* The young and connected

* Future trends

This infographic could be used to begin a discussion with students by asking what they think? What is the age range for a digital native? Which countries have the most digital natives? What does it mean to be young and connected? What do they think the future holds?

Mary Cunningham's curator insight, October 26, 2013 12:27 PM
