15 Countries In 4 Minutes (Time Lapse)

"During the past two years, Kien Lam went on the kind of trip most could only dream about. The photographer wanted to "see as much of the world as possible," so he visited 15 countries around the globe, from Mexico to New Zealand, snapping more than 10,000 photographs along the way. He edited his work together to make this stupendous time-lapse, which may be one of the most envy-inducing travel diaries I've ever seen."

Unit 3

This time-lapse is one of the most amazing videos I've ever seen. Displaying the street-life in India, sand dunes in Arizona, the coast of Cozumel, coral reefs in Australia, mountains in Nepal, a castle in Scotland, Dubai's bright night lights, hobbit holes in the Shire and so many more amazing places captured in a few short seconds. It truly makes me feel like I traveled the world in 4.5 minutes.

YouTube Capture- A Practical iPad App for Teachers ~ Educational Technology and Mobile Learning

YouTube Capture- A Practical iPad App for Teachers ~ Educational Technology and Mobile Learning | hobbitlibrarianscoops | Scoop.it

by Med Kharbach

"YouTube Capture is definitely a must have iPad app for teachers and students. This app is developed by Google and, unlike the basic YouTube app, YouTube Capture allows users to record videos and upload them instantly and right from their iPad or phones and Instagram.

"Some of the fantastic features that distinguish YouTube Capture from the rest of crowd is the fact that it allows users to make use of YouTube’s stabilization, trimming, and automatic colour correction features – something that other video upload apps don’t. Another perk is the time limit which isn’t just a few seconds. In fact, you can record as long as your typical YouTube video would last, so all you really need to worry about is your Internet speed. Furthermore, you can upload and simultaneously share your videos with nearly all social media services as you go."

This infographic looks at Project Based Learning (PBL) and divides it into three main sections:

* Organize and co-ordinate work

* Build background knowledge & inspire

* Co-design *making*

The second and third areas are then decided to more clearly deliniate the areas each covers. The last final two sections provide more specific concepts of what it required and also one or more suggestions of tech tools that will assist the process. There are additional groupings as shown in the infographic above.

More and more teachers are engaging in some form of PBL and this visual may serve as a great base to help create a strong foundation and provide ideas of technology tools that might assist in the process.

I really like this resources because it shows where students are getting information for their projects.  The projects are learned through resources that are distributed across many different fields, websites, and search engines.  This allows students to engage in many different types of content curation sites.  Google and skype are a few examples of resources.  The visual is broken up into instant learning and coalitious segments showing how some sites are good for overlapping purposes.  This is an interesting view of PBL sources.

Global Shipping Traffic Visualized

As stated in this NPR article: "The video shows satellite tracking of routes superimposed over Google Earth. It focuses on some of the main choke points for international shipping, such as the Strait of Malacca on the southern tip of Malaysia, Suez Canal, the Strait of Gibraltar and Panama Canal. It's a good reminder that about 90 percent of all the goods traded globally spend at least some of their transit time on a ship."

Watch Iconic Skylines Emerge Before Your Eyes

Watch Iconic Skylines Emerge Before Your Eyes | hobbitlibrarianscoops | Scoop.it

Corporate real estate data offers unexpectedly riveting views into the past.

Calgary-based real estate company Cube Cities has put together a series of 3-D animations that offer a mesmerizing look at the development of the modern cityscapes of New York, Chicago, San Francisco, Calgary, and Toronto. The videos overlay developer-reported data on construction dates on 3-D mapping technology from Google Earth.

Cube Cities is a new company focused on combining commercial real estate listings with Google Earth visualizations, in an effort to provide customers with a better idea of how prospective office space fits into a city's landscape. After signing up, you can zoom around and get a sense of, say, the views overlooking the Chicago River from the 40th floor of a specific skyscraper.

Developers used the video project to play around with representation models, so each of the videos use slightly different methods to indicate new buildings. In a particularly cool effect, the San Francisco animation begins with clear outlines of the current skyline, and viewers watch as the phantom city turns solid as time moves forward.

Francois Brosseau's curator insight, August 13, 2014 9:42 PM

Demand for office space by corporate tenants and businesses have fueled the growth of cities and their changing skylines.  We can indeed give credit to visionary developers taking on the development risk, but at the very root of development is demand which arises from the success of corporate and business tenants.
