Good question Thomas! I think it is an ongoing dance between learning good storytelling and then learning the tools for maximum impact.
Louise Robinson-Lay's curator insight, August 2, 2013 7:44 AM

recentlyrue recently I had to get students to use Powerpoint as the Internet connection was too slow to have them all work at once on other online presentation tools. After laying down some ground rules about effective use they amazed us with their creative responses. It is not the tool. It is how you use it. And how teachers plan for it!

David Donat's curator insight, July 24, 2013 3:26 PM

The weird iPad-only school in the Netherlands that may be the future of education | GigaOM Ed Tech News | Hitchhiker | Scoop.it

LA Unified recently became one of the biggest school districts to buy iPads for all 30,000 students as additional learning aids for its traditional teacher-led classrooms. But a new series of schools being set up in the Netherlands is taking an even bigger leap forward: it’s going to be an iPad-only learning environment.

That’s right: there will be no paper notebooks or books or laptops or chalkboards or whiteboards. The 11-campus “Steve Jobs school” system, as profiled in Spiegel Online, is nontraditional in many other ways too. And one of the school’s principals thinks that by 2020, this won’t sound weird at all:

Juliana Loh's curator insight, July 8, 2013 3:06 PM

Nanobots could perform surgery in the future! It's an exciting field that certainly gives hope to alot of people yet there are so many implications to consider. What if something goes wrong? Who ethically is incharge? Will we need a new group of 'nano-lawyers' to harvest 'malfuntioned' case studies? Will medicare have enough money to pay for such treatments? Will our society further divide into priveleged/non-priveleged? And who 'teaches' the robots? Will school systems meld into versions of bio-technological medical domains? Lots of questions yet.... what if Nanobots could save your vision? your legs? your child? What if Nanobots was the ONLY thing that could save YOUR LIFE?

Asil, thank you so much for this very appropriate reminder.
blogbrevity's comment, August 5, 2013 9:20 AM
Great opportunity to explain the difference! Permamarks is a "hybrid" way to save links, and the basic version is free. Permamarks creates ONE link that is BOTH a bookmark and an archive at the point of time YOU viewed it: http://pmrks.com/cronut-for-saving-links. When you share a permamark, it provides content in the "context" of when you viewed it. That is what makes Permamarks so valuable for scooping. It preserves a link to a current "realtime" page, but if that page has been removed or changed, you automatically have an archived version at the point in time you captured it. Your scoop.it pages stay relevant and free of dead links. This is very different from other archiving or caching services you can go back to and research pages or links archived at "their" point in time (which may be different from "your" point in time.) Robin, this reminds me of when I first defined curation as different from aggregation because curation presented a "point of view." This is so important to curation. Now an individual can save the internet from their own "point of view." Thank you, again, for this great post and discussions.
